  1. 1) Look around the home page – what is your initial impression of what you see?

The home page is attractive and provides some basic information as about the app. I like the coloring. I understand the purpose of having an out-of-focus picture given this app could be used internationally and not limited to a specific city.

However, what you are not telling me is why I would want to use this. There are so many social networking and media sites, why should I use this one?

That might seem self-evident to you, but it might not to someone who is visiting your site for the first time. The average time spent on a web page is 5 seconds. You have to capture their attention in those 5 seconds. What you’re doing is not.

The best marketing sells benefits not features. You are providing features, which doesn’t show people how this will make their lives better.

Start with the features that are unique to askmob.com. Would these be: posting anonymously, connecting with local people you haven’t met before, being able to speak with people worldwide without having a WiFi connection?

Now, how could these benefit your members? Figure that your visitors don’t have the imagination to think of possibilities for themselves. Show them how these features will benefit them.

For instance, “Mary’s boyfriend started doing drugs. She didn’t know what to do or where to turn. So she asked an anonymous question on askmob.com and got the assistance she needed.”

Do you see. Give them ideas of why this site can mean to their lives.

    2) Are you encouraged to download the app? Can you tell us why (or why not)?

Not at this time, although, that might change. I’m on several social networks now, all of which are helpful to me and my business and know of several others that I will join in time. I don’t see this as providing a service for what I need at this time.

However, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t right for other people. I don’t have a need to ask questions anonymously. I meet the people I want through other resources.

And there are people who want to have the outlet to speak out anonymously. Suppose someone is being abused, they could use your site to get help. Or if someone just moved and is looking to connect with people in their area.

So, please, don’t go by what my needs are. You’re app has applications that will be beneficial to others.

    3) Now, visit the iTunes Download page. What is your initial impression of what you see? Are you encouraged to download the app? Can you tell us why (or why not)?

I would say that my answers to questions 1 and 2 also are applicable here.

Show me why it would be of value to me. (Show me the benefits rather than the features.)

This is not the right app for me at this time and it could be right for many others.

    4) Go to search engine of your choice and find one other app that offers a similar service. Compare the two apps. Which one do you prefer? Why?

I wasn’t sure what to look for since your site does multiple things. I went on to whisper.sh, where people can post anonymously. The home page shows the kinds of posts people are making. For instance, young women afraid that they might be pregnant. (I saw somewhere else about posting anonymously about being bullied.) This site is also divided into different categories. One of these is LGBTQ, which is another topic people might want to post about anonymously.

These things on the home page, help give people an idea of the benefits of posting anonymously. Therefore, I can see where more people would feel encouraged to join whisper.sh than askmob.com.

Know that this has nothing to do with the quality of what your offering and everything to do with the differences in the home pages.

I cannot think of anything else other than I wish you well with your new venture.

  2. 1) Look around the home page – what is your initial impression of what you see?

You made it clear that what your business is about, from the first visit the site is very clean and straight-forward to what it is about. It also looks creative but not until it could attract me to sign up straight away. There are few things that i wanted to know like what is the difference between your apps and the other social apps.

The thing i don’t like is when i scroll down or when i press the angle down button, it shows the slide show with a series of steps. The text explaining each steps are fine but the image for each steps are not. I see a repeating images of the phone and it makes me feel like it is so ugly to show it that way. My suggestion would be, you could just display the screen content without display the phone. So that it doesn’t make me feel like I am in a mobile online site that displaying a list of phone for sales.

    2) Are you encouraged to download the app? Can you tell us why (or why not)?
I do not feel i wanted to download the app. It makes me wonder what is the difference between the features that you provide compare with Facebook or other social apps that allow to do the same? I still can use Facebook to ask anything and get feedback from my friends. I can use apps like MeetMe to meet new people and ask anything i want.

My suggestion for this is that, you could pin point what is the difference or key feature that you can do and others apps can’t. The point is to gain the visitor trust your apps could workout better than the others that they have tried.

    3) Now, visit the iTunes Download page. What is your initial impression of what you see? Are you encouraged to download the app? Can you tell us why (or why not)?

It is clean and straightforward about what you offer.

    4) Go to search engine of your choice and find one other app that offers a similar service. Compare the two apps. Which on do you prefer? Why?

MeetMe Apps. https://www.meetme.com/. By comparing the sites, I would prefer your site because you provide more information than MeetMe and your site look more professional or serious in what you do. MeetMe site is just a simple signup and download page which doesn’t give more detail about how it works which your site did.

One thing that matter to me is that how are people rating your sites and their feedback. It would be good if you allow people to leave a feedback on your site.

    5) Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
Overall, it is a good start. I like this kind of apps but often it either doesn’t match people expectation or it has too many ads. By people expectation it includes:
    1. can i really meet new people?
    2. does my question really get answered?
    3. i would like to know what are the comments from existing user. Such as does it really work? does it show a lot of ads?

these are my thought when i try to download an apps. if you could provide all the answer right on your web page or the download page, it could gain my confidence and willingness to try.

  3. 1. My first impression of the home page is positive. It’s a functional, no-muss-no-fuss landing page for a mobile app that clearly states what the app is for. Selling points are nicely presented below the fold, although I’d eliminate the unused white space above them.

    2. It looks useful, yes. While mobile devices are getting smarter every day and can answer a lot of basic questions about the weather or the nearest coffee shop, only another person can tell you that the beach just closed five minutes ago because thunder was heard or that the band playing the coffee shop right now is really awesome. An app like this would probably come in handy while out and about, especially if you live in a pretty well-populated area and like to do things a bit spontaneously. I can also see how it would be helpful for meeting new people. Social media has become so “closed” to friends and acquaintances only, so it’s refreshing that you could use this app to meet some locals on the spur of the moment in a way that’s not as salacious as, say, Tinder. On the other hand, I myself am a private person and would probably want to remain anonymous, so I’m thankful that you offer that option.

    3. I don’t see any real problems with your iTunes page. It follows the standard format of iTunes app pages and repeats the info from your home page. Nothing wrong with that. However, I notice that your iTunes page says this is a free app. That’s awesome, so I would make sure to advertise this fact more clearly on your home page, as well. Also, this is a very minor point, but you need a colon, not a period after “The different ways people use AskMob.” Anyway, yes, I’m encouraged to try the app because it seems useful, and it’s free.

    4. Check out this page on Quora:

    https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-Localmind-LocalUncle-loqly-Crowdbeacon-LOCQL-findero-Ask-Around

These are the apps / mobile sites I found that offered a service similar to yours at AskMob, and five out of seven of them are dead. Of the two that remain, one appears to be an outdated blog rather than an app, and the other is a mobile site that requires users to register before they can even have a look around, which is an easy way to discourage new users. I don’t know if the failure of all these ventures indicates that you have a wide open playing field for success or that this field is riddled with daunting obstacles that you too may have to contend with. If you read the Quora link above, however, you’ll see concerns about building a large enough active user base to sustain an app that requires immediate crowdsourced answers in order to be useful. Something to think about perhaps.

    5. I like how you present your app, and it sounds very useful. But after reading comments on Quora about similar apps that have now failed, I do wonder how you’re going to build a big enough user base to provide real-time crowdsourced answers to user questions. Since you offer other functionality–a way to track friends and possibly connect with strangers–this may be enough of a draw to compensate and maintain user interest while you’re building that base. But I don’t know. Outside of large cities, I suspect you may be vulnerable to the “immediacy” problem referenced on Quora. Good luck, though. Again, I like the idea a lot. I just hope you can build a big enough membership for it to work.
