1) Looking at the homepage, the information given seems helpful and relevant although the design seems too simple and unprofessional. The pictures of cars and a family however makes me feel warm towards the site. Navigation-wise i think the home page does a good job of helping me navigate through it.
2) I tried to find quotes for student insurance, but when i clicked on get quote, the quote page felt like it was the same for every type of insurance and not peculiar to the student insurance i was looking for.
3) I don’t think am encouraged to try this service as i feel it doesn’t seem very professional and convincing.
4) I compared the site against http://www.confused,com and i would rather use http://www.confused.com as the carinsurancecalculator site quote process seemed too long which i found rather frustrating.
5) I observed that you cannot get back to the homepage from the quote page by clicking on the carinsurancecalculator logo on the top left of the screen.

The links at the top of the site are organized in a clear way and I like there there is an instant link to get a car insurance quote in 3 minutes. Â The descriptions for the various types of insurances are too wordy, they should either be bullet points or maybe a table/chart that can compare the features of the various types of insurance. Â As it is written it is too hard to sift through all of that information to get a good idea of the different types of insurance. Â I also like the latest news ticker on the left hand side, although one of the articles talks about a passenger dying in a car accident and I think this is inappropriate information to share or have featured on the home page.
2) Try to find a particular information you might want. Does it comes easy to you? Â I was looking to see what the specific insurance requirements are in Minnesota and it was easy to find under the “States” link although the information is presented in the same way as the various types of insurances on the homepage. Â Again, I would suggest breaking up the text with visuals, shortening the copy and using more bullet points. Â I do like that certain information is highlighted by underlining or the use of italics. Â Also, I would like a feature to be able to compare a couple of different states to see the change in requirements.
3) Are you encouraged to try our service? Why is that (or not)? Â I think I would use this service to get a free auto quote. Â One, because it is free and two because there is a lot of information provided about my state requirements and insurance in general and the information seems factual and relevant. Â
4) Go to search engine of your choice and find one other website that offers a similar service. Compare the two websites. Which on do you like better? Why? Â I took a look at progressive.com and I like that they use the spokeswoman from the TV commercials as it ties into my current view of Progressive. Â Also, the quote calculator is more prominent on this page, so I would be more likely to go ahead and get a quote here as that is the main thing I want to do. Â Also, I like the way they have segregated the various types of insurance, instead of giving the entire description in a paragraph form, a small visual and short description is used and then you can click on the link for more information. Â It makes the page seem more streamlined and it is easier to digest all of the information. Â Also, I like that they mention a specific dollar amount that I could save, it stands out much more than the way it is presented on carinsurancecalculator.info..
5) Please share any of your additional observations. Â Overall the layout is pretty clean at the top of the page, but the main image used is looks pretty generic and I would prefer to see some more diversity (i.e., not just a typical white family with two kids).

Yes, the navigation allows me to navigate the site to find what I need. However, the overall design does not seem to be as professional and developed as I would expect from a business. In a way, there almost is too much information and the company should go back and spend more time on the overall UX of the site.Â

When searching for information regarding how to get full coverage car insurance, I was easily able to find the link to the information under the “Car Insurance Types” tab. However, once I clicked this tab, the information given to me about full car insurance was way too long and not organized in a way that is attractive to me as a potential customer.Â
3) Are you encouraged to try our service? Why is that (or not)?
While skimming through some of the text, I noticed that the writing does not have a good flow and is rather choppy because of keyword stuffing for SEO purposes. This was also not attractive to me as a potential customer. If the company is working to increase their SERP, they should spend more time developing quality content that site visitors could enjoy reading.Â

After typing in “Car Insurance Quotes” on Google, I came across Nationwide’s website as the first result. Nationwide’s design and UX is much more simple and user-friendly compared to Car Insurance Calculator’s. Nationwide also has optimized their page content so that it is easy to find the information that a visitor is looking for quickly. The spacing between text and ideas is also much more cleaner on the Nationwide site than it is on Car Insurance Calculator’s website.Â

I think the biggest problem I have with Car Insurance Calculator is that the content isn’t optimized and tailored to the user, but it is rather tailored to the search engines. Though SERP rankings are important so your site can be found by those searching for your service, I think the company should put more focus onto who it is they are targeting for leads, which is the consumer, not the search engine. Tailor the site to your customer.Â
