Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
I immediately thought the site was about locating locations. Â It looked possibly like a site where I could go and ask where something was and receive good direction. Â I had an appealing look to it and made me very curious. Â I also though it had a professional design.
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
I like how easy it looked to register and login. Â I also liked how it showed queries and at the top of the page it had the slogan which told me what the site was about. Â It was also nice that I could enroll by using facebook.
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
It was bothersome that I did not see anywhere that I could click to see other parts of the sites without enrolling. Â I wanted to see more of what the site was about before I enrolled. Â This could make potential site users uncomfortable. Â I liked the idea of the site and the layout of the colors and wording. Â I though it look professional but cool and hip at the same time.
What do you think of the sign up process?
The sign up process was easy and simple. Â I Â would give this an A+. Â wish every site was that easy to sign up on. Â I actually am used to reviewing sites now and this was a rare gem because the signup was just very easy and convenient. I am sure this will help to get lots of site users.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
Locql was just an inferior site compared to this site. Â It looked difficult to enroll in. Â If I did not have a facebook page, I would just close their site because it looks like they require a facebook page to enroll. Â It did not hold my interest or curiosity, I could not even look at their site. Â Gootip actually looked great. Â It was easy to register on, had clouds at the top of the page which made me feel kind of relaxed. Â It also had explore, locate and receive answers on it. Â I think that this could be added to your page in order to compete better. Â It even had a map with questions and answers on it. Â It was just laid out in a superior fashion with more information and more clarity that was more accessible for site users than your page.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I like the idea of your page. Â I like the layout but it could be far better. Â I would like to see some pictures with relaxed looks in them on your page and I would like to see a big map with pinpoints on it. Â I would also like to easily access the answers to the questions on your page. Â On the top of the page, I would like to see options to click on such as search or ask a question or about us or contact us. Â The page is a great start but many additions could be added to make it a master page.
Thanks a lot for a great feedback. We actually provide a browsing experience before the users can register on the site. The latest queries from the world on the sign up page actually lets the users explore different elements of the site.
About the pictures, these will come in later during the releases but at the same time we are concentrating of making the text based questions/answers. Do you think, that is a turn off not having images on the site?
We are working on providing a search box so that users can readily search existing queries. About the ask and contact us links, we would definitely think about it as enhancement to the usability.
Thanks again for a thorough feedback.
Regards.

Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?

5-10 sec test does not give me any clue as to what your website is about. Keep in mind that 5-10 seconds only allows me to see what is above the fold -Â which is the most valuable space on your website – and is the space at the top before scrolling down. The name findero.us makes me think this site is about finding something. But the tagline: “Follow places, everything else follows is very vague” and is really confusing. I have absolutely no clue what your site is about and that is really bad. I strongly recommend you redesign your homepage ASAP to give visitors a clue in this critical area. Keep in mind that no one will want to log in or register if they don’t know what you are about. The log in and register forms can be kept on another page, with links at the top of your homepage, so you are not using up valuable space.
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
This site is very 1-dimensional. I see no navigational buttons, and very little media. Need pictures. This site feels very empty and does not clearly define what you do.
Â
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?

Bothersome: Well there are questions on your homepage, which most people will not read if they have no clue as to what you are about. You need some high-quality pictures, and a brand logo/icon and a new tagline that is clear and concise about what you do.
What do you think of the sign up process?

Registering is very easy.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?

Gootip tells me it is a community of questions and answers. There is no question about that. Your site does not tell me this and needs improvement to be able to compete with Gootip.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

I recommend that you take out a piece of paper and write down what you are trying to accomplish.
You strongly need a brand logo, a clear tagline that tells me you are a question and answer site, pictures that are related would help.
Keep in mind that your homepage is like a salesman. He is going to sell your brand or not. No one will want to register or sign in if your salesman is not effective. So take the screen above the fold and present your services. I could not even tell what you do, which is very bad. You come up with a better way to present yourself to visitors.
Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
The motto “follow places, everything else follows” made me think of a twitter for geographical locations, but after a glimpse at the latest queries I got the impression that it’s a message wall that sorts the posts by region.
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
I like the minimalistic look of the site, and the color theme works too, however it gives no clues about the site’s purpose. I really miss a short, 1-2 sentence summary on what this site does, you know like a “Welcome to finero.us, the place where…” just above the login/register.
Without registration I am pretty much left to my guesses, because there’s absolutely no information regarding the site on the main page (maybe you forgot to include the footer here?). The only way to get to the about page is clicking the terms of service or privacy p., where the footer is included.
What do you find bothersome?
After registration, I’m simply dropped to the “home” page. Still no word about what the site does, or a simple thank you for registering, or just redirecting to the about page. I seriously got the feeling that this site just drops me “onto the map” then leaves me alone to find out what to do (I’m not saying it’s hard to figure, but still…). And about dropping me onto the map, it would be really nice if the location would be automatically set from the IP, saving the users time.
And the really annoying part is that even if I choose another location, clicking “home” will put me back to “550-552 Golden Gate Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102, USA”.
There is a “notification” menu item on the right, and I have no idea what it does. It’s not even covered on the about page.
What do you like?
I really like the multiple levels you can look at and post queries to.
It’s also nice that the flag/like/follow/etc. buttons are only visible on the queries moused over, which eliminates the little button clutter that you see on so many sites.
What do you think of the sign up process?
During registration, the “terms of use” and “privacy statements” link to subpages, which means that if you do read them you lose the data in registration fields and have to fill them again. They should really come up in a div box.
Otherwise the sign up process is very easy, I was a bit surpised that the site don’t require an email verification though.
I’ve also seen in the terms that the site has a standard english policy, but it’s not exactly clear whether it means using “proper” english when using english or that you can only use english on the site. This is a rather important question actually, and if it’s english only than you should state it very clearly during the registration.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
They both have exactly what I’m missing here: just as you arrive they tell you where you are, what the sites do.
After signing in locql starts to ask you questions however, and is a lot more restrictive forcing you to add locations and queries, all this giving the feeling of it being a facebook subpage, which I don’t like. So your site has a much more free feel to it than locql.com.
On the other hand gootip.com seems to work just about the same as your site, while being more organized and easier to sort. You should really have a look at their register box on the main page, BTW. Also after registration it puts you to your a “home” page where you can see a short list of what you can do. Also their posting has more features (post duration, google translate, picture uploads), even if being a bit more complicated. I’m sorry to say but currently gootip.com seems superior overall, offering the same as your site plus more.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
It would be really neat if you could choose locations from the small map too on the side, however I realize that including an interactive map box would slow down page loading times, so maybe you could just add a change location button near the static map too?
If you click an intent tag you get a list of queries with it, but it’s not shown anywhere which tag you chose and that you are actually looking at a tag-sorted list and not the general location based one. This is especially confusing cause meanwhile you keep your location up top and on the map. This also means you cannot simply get all queries with a tag, only the ones from the selected place with that tag, and from one country at most. (so if I’m such a romantic soul that I want to see all flirt queries from around the world I’m out of luck.)
And I miss a “world” location.
On the “home” page all queries should be listed (just like on the main page that you see without logging in) eg. the default location should be “world” for everyone. Than give an option to users to change their default location to whatever else if they want to.
I think I’ve found a bug: if you set the default place (the Golden Gate Ave one) on follow it appears in the followed places list, then if you click it in that list on your profile page, nothing happens. At this point if you click “home” to move to that location, it disappears from the “normal” followed places list, but it’s still being followed because it’s button is still on “unfollow” and it’s still listed on the profile page (still won’t do anything when clicked).
The profile page (or personal, with your name) gives a message that says “hello Péter Kovács, Péter Kovács’s karma with findero.us”. First, this makes no sense, second it would look much better this way: “hello Péter Kovács, your karma with findero.us is <whatever>”. Even though it’s also not mentioned anywhere what karma is, so I’m guessing it’s a feature still being worked on.
– Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
At first glance it is a bit difficult to figure out what the theme is, but once you read the tag line on the header you imediatly think of a search engine type of website. The design elements are very appealing and approperate for the theme as well.
– Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
PROS: The design elements of the site are very appealing and fit the theme. All the text fields and buttons have a nice round edge to them which ties each piece of the layout together and gives it a professional look. Each text element is easy to read and not flashy by any means. Very easy to navigate through.
CONS: Personally, the only thing I find a bit annoying is the scrolling background on the sign up page. A fixed style background would be more appealing.
– What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
I found the “change location” process a little annoying with the fact I had to zoom into my home state and click on a town next to mine to find my location instead of simply entering my location into the text field. There should also be a “save location” button. I navigated away from the home page and realized my location was not saved. The text field next to “Post a query” Should possibly be a fix overflow field instead of a customizable box. Very cute/unique feature, but it leaves a lot of space better “Post a query” and the field it self. Again the aesthetics of the site are very appealing and professional. I agree with KovacsPeter comment about the tag line under the personal home page. A less confusing run on could be “Hello [name here]! [name here]’s karma with findero.us is [amount of karma]”. When clicking on the account link, I find it a bit obnoxious that the text sub headings under each category are a big font. It’s strenuous on the eyes having a bold, large font. I do like the category headings though, not to in your face and tells you exactly what you can edit on your account.
– What do you think of the sign up process?
The process itself was easy and not a hassle at all. Quick instructions and bam! You’re signed up.
– How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
Similar in the type of service, but a little less customizable seeming.
– Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
Overall, it has extreme potential to catch on as a great site once minor bugs are worked out of the system.
USING SAFARI ON MACBOOK
Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
First glance really doesn’t do much to give an idea about what the site is about. All one really sees right away is a log-in section and different queries below it. It would be easy for someone to view this as a ‘twitteresque’ travel posting page.
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
Again, the main page visuals leave a fair bit to be desired. While simple, it does not do much to highlight what the site is about.
On logging in, the site retains its simplicity. However, this contributes to the feeling that the site is empty (lots of white space everywhere), and a bit confusing. This confusion, I feel, is mostly caused by a lack of definition of boarders between the different threads Within the threads, the posts have lots of void space because of the text/thread intent block (the text extends the width of the thread box, but all the time/date/intention information appears below the text but off to the right side. Maybe align the text to the left, and in its own ‘box’ beside the text have the information on the right. This will reduce the three lines of empty white space that is under the text and to the left of the thread info).
On first opening the page, the mini google map is a bit annoying, as one expects to be able to zoom in and out with it. The ‘Change Location’ bar needs to be placed with the map, as that is where one would expect to find it. In changing locations, a larger map appears with a search box on top and operates much like any other map search program.Â
Posting a new thread was easy (though for the occasions when the large map remains opened, the post-box should be located under the map, above the threads that are already posted). However, upon posting your post loads up in another page where you are presented with edit/delete, etc. options. But, there is no options to return to location (in fact, one if left wondering what to do, as you do not know if the post has been made or not, and there is nothing there to ‘finish’ the post). The ‘intentions’ are a pain as well, as ‘Flirt’ is always there and needs to be removed all the time (I am asking where something is located, I don’t want to flirt, I want to find).
Replying to a thread was easy.
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
Uppers: Ease of use. The program and site were rather simple to move around with to various locations. Posting was easy (save for the one issue listed below).
Downers: Too much empty space. The location of the ‘change location’ button (should be with the map–or an additional one should be there, above the ‘nearby’ places). The lack of ‘return’ to location button after posting a new thread/question (and the fact that you are loaded onto another page that has just your post on it–why can’t you hit post and have it there, right away, on the page above all the other thread posts already made?)
Not being able to define your own location (because I am on a mobile network, my location ‘via’ the network is a city 500 miles from where I really live) sucks, and if you want to follow a place you don’t live, you cannot simply hit a ‘my locations’ button and go there–you have to re-search everything.
The profile this with the karma stuff is meaningless jibberish.
What do you think of the sign up process?
I signed in with Facebook, which was simple. I also went through and created a second account using the email registration. Again, straight forward. Also glad to see that you could deactivate the account (I couldn’t find that on locql…grrr)
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
locql.com has a nicer, fuller layout. The map section is a bit more user-friendly, however, the demand to fill out three locations to register feels restricting, and having to answer questions about those places sucks to (it is like they want to monitor you)Â
gootip provides live thread feed, and again has a fuller look to it.
Both give a better idea what they are about, and are better at letting you fix your location. At the moment, I would say that they are, in general, better sites.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
Personally, though I do a fair bit of travel, sites like this and locql/gootip don’t really appeal to me. The communities are not overly consistent or monitored (do you intend to monitor the site?). I would say that it does have lots of potential, however, if you monitor it correctly, encourage more serious inquiries/replies, and make the site a bit more professional looking.Â
I use often the thorntree form from Lonely Planet. This certainly provides a more stable community of people to provide answers, suggestions, and feedback concerning travel, and is well monitored. I feel this is more reliable for more serious questions on travel. That is the kind of travel form I look for.
Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
I have no idea what the site could be about at first glance. The design is bland and undescriptive, and gives me absolutely no indication of the service the site provides. All I see when I first visit the home page is a log-in screen and a form to register an account. This site looks so generic that it could be about anything.
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
As I mentioned, the design is so bland, unappealing and does a poor job of indicating what the site is about. The text used for the logo and the description of the site seems similarly bland and uninspiring. The page honestly has the look of being thrown together in a few minutes.
I find it kind of strange also that there are large blank spaces on each side of the main content. Will this be filled with ads later? I’m all for giving sites breathing room, but the wide open space on this site just feels like a gaping void.
Scrolling down the home page I notice several of the questions don’t have answers. That doesn’t look good. Is there a way to only display questions that have been answered? On the other hand, the comment provided for the question “How many Tim Horton’s are there in Toronto?” is absolutely useless (“I’m not sure if it is too many, or not enough”). Content like that doesn’t make this site look very helpful.
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
I find the links at the bottom of the home page to be particularly bothersome. Why not place them at the top of the page, or one of the sides, where there are large spaces begging for content.
Also, as I click on any of the links at the bottom of the home page, when I’m directed to one of those pages, I can’t return to the home page using the back button on my browser. I HATE this — it’s one of those annoying quirks that will make me leave a site very quickly.
I’m also baffled that when I click on the links for “About”, “Privacy”, “Terms”, etc. and am redirected to one of the new pages, I’m taken to the *bottom* of those pages, instead of the top. What the heck is that about? I actually have to scroll up to read the content? Or is that done on purpose, to keep me from actually seeing the content of these important pages? And again, I can’t hit the Back button to return to the home page, so I have to scroll up and click on the site logo to return to the home page, which is inconvenient. Why is there no “Home” link included with the links at the bottom?
Also, why is there a different site logo shown on the pages for “About”, “Privacy”, “Terms”, etc. than is on the home page? It seems very inconsistent and unprofessional. I also don’t like that there isn’t an actual page accessible from the “Feedback” link. Clicking on an email link requires me to send an email with an email program like Outlook, which I don’t use, and copying and pasting the email address for use in my Gmail account is too much of a hassle.
Also, consistent with the site’s lack of cohesiveness, I also note that the white box containing the content on the home page features a drop shadow effect, while the other pages on the site do not have this drop shadow on the boxes. Some of us notice bothersome little details like that.
Another thing: the site’s search tool is not listed on the home page. Wha? Why? I see the search tool on the other pages, which I’ve already mentioned are inconveniently accessed from the bottom of the home page, but if I want to search the site, the first and only place I’ll think to look is at the top of the home page, and it’s not there. Baffling.
I guess you may be hiding the search function because the search tool just isn’t very useful. I searched for “Atlanta”, and a confusing drop down menu unexpectedly appeared with 2 links. I clicked the first link and was taken to a page with 3 questions listed: the first  was about the Nations National Christmas Tree, the second was about Las Vegas, and shown last was a question about Atlanta. Yikes.
What do you think of the sign up process?
I should first mention that there is a “signin/signup” button on the top left corner of the secondary pages on the site. Clicking on this button just directs me to the home page, instead of a separate sign-up page as I expect.
As it displays on my screen, the text for the “email address” form is divided between 2 lines, with the “:” displayed beneath “email address”. It looks really strange.
The form input is straightforward enough, and I like appreciate the links to the Privacy Statement and Terms of Service. It seems like a second password form to confirm that the first password is correct would be helpful.
Other than that, the sign up process is simple and quick, which I appreciate, although what is this new “Home” page I’m directed to? It looks completely different from the original home page. Very confusing.
I appreciate the confirmation email I received after registering. That’s always helpful, although in the email message, there should be a space between the last 2 paragraphs in the email message. Again, the details are crucial.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
locql.com looks much more professional and better designed, from what I can see, but the site refuses to let me access the home page without signing in using my Facebook account. No thanks. I’m tired of having to use Facebook accounts to access online content.
gootip, again, looks much better designed, more legitimate and more dynamic, although the “Recent questions” displayed on its home page are all from April…I take it these types of Web sites aren’t exactly taking the world by storm?
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
Going back to the “new” home page that loads after I sign in, the location shown to me at the top of the page is in San Francisco, which is nowhere near my actual location…odd. I’m looking at questions about San Francisco, and I don’t even live in California.
The window that pops up and allows me to ask a question about a specific location is helpful enough, although the only way I could close it was to click the “close” button, which I didn’t expect. An “X” button somewhere might be nice.
I don’t understand the “intent” tags used when I try to post a query. The default setting is “fun, flirt”. Is this a dating site? Is there any need for tags at all? When I see the tags listed on the home page, clicking on them does absolutely nothing, and they don’t seem to provide any real value to the questions. Tags just seem like another useless distraction.
Across the entire site, I’d suggest using a logical and uniform spelling style. Some of the text on the site is rendered all in lowercase, while odd words are occasionally captalized when they shouldn’t be. Other parts of the site have text displayed correctly, with the first letters of each sentence capitalized, but that isn’t the case on every page. It feels odd, mismatched and amateur. If you want to appear legitimate, present your content in a professional manner.
I’ll be honest: I find this site very confusing and awkwardly designed, and it seems to lack clear focus. That makes it hard to understand how to use the features, or even why the features would be useful for me.
Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
The site is about finding answer or ask a questions.Â
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
The page layout is not attractive and interesting enough. The site displayed the login and register form at first. If im first time visit the site, i dont even really gone through what the site is really about and the page displayed is a register and login form. It’s not suitable to place it first. The login place should be smaller at top of the title area for people to enter their email and password. The register form should show after you introduce your site. You displayed the latest queries at the bottom of the form, I don’t find it useful for me to get to know more about your site.I suggest you should introduce and describe a little about your site at first. You can create a slideshows displaying what the site is about and how it works. Show the steps such as step 1: register, step 2: fill in profile step 3: posting a question, etc. After the slideshows, then you can display a sign up for free button. The button will be the key point to attract people to sign up as if they found they want to ask a question and it is free for sign up they will definitely sign up for your site.Â
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
What i don’t like is the page layout, it’s not attractive and too simple. You can create a layout with more colorful and the background color is not suitable with your title color. What i like is the service you provide, which allow people to get answer from people around the world and they can share it. I also like that your site connect to the social website such as twitter and facebook.Â
What do you think of the sign up process?
The signup process is simple and easy as i can signup using facebook.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
Gootip.com layout is much more attracting and interesting. It make people feel familiar and comfort with the site. Locql require people to signup just can use the site which is really not a good technique to attract visitors. Visitor dont really simply signup for anything. They wanted to know and try whether the site is really helpful or not. Gootip having the search engine in their homepage, this will be a great advantage for visitor convenience. Gootip.com is more on location, your site is general, which will be a great source for everyone, because they can ask anything from your site.Â
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I suggest that you add a search engine in the homepage for the convenient of the visitor. They can search for the answer that they looking for. It give them try your site service whether is helpful or not. When they can’t find the result, you can display ask the question by signing up. This will be another way for getting more members to join your site. Also you can provide something that others competitor dont provide. Such as a more detailed search filter, email notification if anyone relied the question they asked. Also allow them to add friends and rate for the answer and rate the answerer if the answer is useful. This will make the user more actively in your site. Your page layout should be more interesting and more attractive such as using a colorful.
Visit https://www.findero.us. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
I’m not sure exactly what this is about but I think its about following things that other people are following.
Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
The site has an interesting look to it with not to many colors used but it’s so simple that it makes people want to look further down to see what is beneath the sign up section. Visually the sign up section is very simple and I like that you are able to sign up more than one way by using facebook. Immediately you see a long list of questions and some that even in a different language. Because the questions vary so much I found myself reading all of them. I see that there is differnt itentions for the questions like casual and flirt and that was interesting. I wonder if people will put their reply with that in mind. I see that when you want to respond to something that you have to login and that you can’t just reply. I also see that you can see the info of the user without signing in and whatever questions they posted. The general navigation of the sight seems to very easy even before signing in or signing up for an account.
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
I like the general feel of the site it seems very laid back and that you can just ask whatever you want. I would like to see a way to filter the questions if I was interested in seeing a past question that wasn’t on the homepage. I would have to see a more inviting layout of the homepage with more description to what the site actually does. The set almost forces you to see what is below because you want to see what is being followed. I didn’t quite understand your tagline, “find places, everything else follows.” I get the teh first past but what is the that “everything” else follows. I would have liked to see more colors and a background that doesn’t seem to white washed. I really like the pop of blue at the top of the site but I would like to see more the colors flow on the homepage. I like that you have division lines in between each question but I would like to see a more bold line to creat more depth on the site if your choose to stay a little more plain on the colors. I would like to have seem some of questions in the middle of sign up insteading of feeling that I need to sign up. After I logged in I was not fond of the set up with my info, me asking a question and seeing the general question in and of itself. I would much rather be able to post question from underneath my name instead be put into the general list. I did however like the theree column setup under my name with the questions, answers and followers.Â
What do you think of the sign up process?
The sign up process was extremely simple that I just sat there waiting for something else to happen. I was a little thrown off because the screen went right to the questions and I was almost unsure if my account had been set up. I would have liked to see a thank message or something of the like to make sure the I knew that I signed up. I just saw my name at the top of page and that’s how I knew I was signed in. I would much rather see the page with my name on it rather than being sent to the homepage. I like that I can change my display name instead but I would have liked to see that when I signed up.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like locql.com, gootip?
Locql.com had a nice layout with more depth to it. I really liked the the map and the trending section topics on the side of the page. I also liked the search bar at the the top of page to quickly look for a quesion of interest. However I don’t like that you can only sign in using facebook so that was really restictive for me being that I have no facebook account. I like that I can just browse your site then if I want to get more in depth I can create an account.
With gootip I liked that I could easily understand what their site was about but I found there website to a little too busy.

When I got to the homepage when logged in I was a little confused to as to what the location bar was supposed to do. Is it supposed to filter the questions by location or is it supposed to be the place for me to put in my location.Â
