  1. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

I think this site is to assist with health, the page I landed on talks about depression and yoga, so that appears to be about mental health.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

To be honest, the page does not prompt me to take action.  I don’t feel coerced or compelled to.  With the internet these days, people will simply leave your site if they aren’t interested.  The action appears to be “I’ve tried it” (yoga) or “I’ve prescribed it”.  I have done neither.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

In general I have seen health sites like WebMD or asked questions in the search bar and wound up on a site that looks similar.  Your site appears to be a nice resource center to help with health issues.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

The KISSinsights “feedback” box is bothersome.  I don’t like it.  If I have issues I will report them or look for a contact.  I don’t need a feedback box static on the page.

I like the FoundHealth Help page.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

My experience was a positive one.  I personally have a friend with mental health issues and so a website like this is very useful.  I don’t have a knowledge base to add to your page on depression or yoga.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

I like how you show your partners on the homepage.  That builds credibility for your brand.

I don’t understand why you show all of your popular links and treatments on your homepage.  I think these should not be listed on your homepage, or a less space consuming method should be used.  If all of these terms are searchable, let a person search for them in a search box on your homepage.  I think a person would get lost (trying to find your real tabs amongst the popular links and treatments.

Next, is there a screening process before someone can edit a treatment?  What is a person is not an expert and they add bad information?  How is this monitored?

Lastly, it says “Learn more about our mission” on another page.  Shouldn’t your mission statement be a concise sentence and on your homepage?  It looks like you have paragraphs about your mission.  I strongly encourage you to streamline this pagelong mission into a sentence that covers all of it and put it on your homepage.  I think you don’t need to say, “Welcome to FoundHealth” because the user should know they are on FoundHealth.  “A smarter approach to your health” looks like your slogan, so that can be kept.

  2. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

I think this page is a forum for those suffering from depression and are seeking alternative treatments for their condition.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

I feel like I would be expected to take part in a public discussion because the comments are such a featured element on the page, and this is a turn-off for me.  I might read through some of the comments, but I am not as interested in other people’s comments as to learn from experts and I would not be compelled to chat in a public forum about something as private as depression.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I have not personally seen a site like this, and I appreciate the database of so many resources in one place.  However, I am not interested in the front-and-center comments section…I feel its a great option for a lot of people, but its intimidating to those who don’t want to be part of ‘the community’

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

Its unclear if this is a yoga site that mentions depression as a benefit or if this is a depression website that mentions yoga as a possible way to alleviate symptoms.  I would be more apt to post about Yoga experience than depression experience.  However, its still unlikely.  I would rather hear from reliable sources than any random person who took one yoga class and fancies themselves an expert.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

I feel the purpose of this site is unclear.  As I mentioned above, is it about depression or yoga or holistic medicine in general?  The eye first focuses on the survey question…I would suggest the eye first catch on some brand-defining element, or clue as to what the site is about.  I also feel the site is cluttered with too much information,  The bulk of the visual space is filled with comments that I don’t really care to read about and I have to search for the useful information.  I do like the icons on the tabs…that help draw the eye away from the comments and towards the links.

  3. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

-From the url itself it says depression-and-yoga and from the homepage of the site where it shows feedback from people saying that they felt better after attending the yoga class and whatnot so I suppose this is a mental health service site which also gives advices to people under depression.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

-With all honesty I wont. Basing from all the information I see on the home page. That didn’t prompt me to take any action. I haven’t done neither of the 2 options that you have on the home page.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

-I have seen some other website which offers services like you do with regards to mental health. But the appearance of your site is better than the others which makes me feel that your services will be better than theirs. The appearance of the site is very important in my opinion.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

-I find the feedback from people bothersome since the home page should be focused on advertising your products in some other ways. Like showing people what the site is made for. What are the advantages we can get by getting your services or something like that instead of putting those feedback from people. That usually gives me the impression of scam sites or something similar. What I like about the site is the appearance itself, the concept and the fact that you put beta on your banner which gives me the impression that there will be changes on the site and the site might disappear itself one day. That just gives me the correct expectation. The other thing that I like is the feedback window at the bottom right of the page. That gives me the impression that you are open for any comments or feedbacks every visitors may have. That is a challenging job but in return it’ll make your site and your services better. Keep that up.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

-i might not add my experience to the page since the things that users experienced are being publicize in the home page itself. Since some people need to sign in. Then I believe it’ll be more appropriate for people to sign in or sign up before they will be able to see the contents or the experiences of all the users. Maybe you can put some experiences on the home page for advertising purposes but don’t put all of them there.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

-The site itself like what I kept telling above is okay. The appearance, the colors looks professional. The links are okay. However, you need to put more assistive links at the bottom of the page. FAQs and HELP and Contact Us will be a good choice to add to the links. Since those are very very important links to sites that provides services. In addition to that maybe you could add “Facebook connect” on your site so that people who wants to use their facebook account will easily be able to login or sign in.

-Overall. The site is okay since it is connected to various social networking sites which will help you in advertising your services. The search field is there. The links are there, you just need to put more links and maybe change some parts on your home page. Anyway, this is a good site already by itself but remember that good can always be made better. Good luck to you!

  4. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

This page seems to be about sharing experiences with depression in order to help others who might be experiencing the effects of that disease.  I will admit I was a little confused at first, my eyes traveled all over the page because I was looking for a tagline that explained what this site does.  I would definitely like to see a tagline, especially with so much going on in each page.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

On further study, I can see that this is more like sharing personal experience compared with a voting mechanism to collect data about what the best remedy for a given condition is.  It’s an interesting idea and I am now intrigued.

This page does prompt me to take action, but I believe it can be made more clear.  From what I can gather, if I’ve tried Yoga to treat depression, I can vote or share my experience.  If I haven’t, I can read through the experiences and, based on others recommendations, try the treatment myself.

To make this section more interactive, I would first change the sentences at the top (Your experience. Show what can work.).  I might change it to “Have you tried yoga to treat depression?  Share your experience.  Looking to treat your depression?  See what others have to say.” This would do a lot for me in the way of making this site less confusing.

I also think that it will be overwhelming for the user who’s looking for a depression treatment to read through all the comments.  Instead of the “I’ve Tried it” button, I would like to see a section like this:

Community Experience: 5 people have Yoga.

It Worked for Me! (4 votes)  Not for Me… (1 vote)

    OR

This Works:  YES! (5 votes)  No (0 votes)

    OR

It Helped my Symptoms (3 votes)  It Had No Effect (1 vote)  It Made my Symptoms Worse! (1 Vote)

And, perhaps it could even be highlighted red if the majority don’t like the treatment or green if the majority found it helpful.

If this section is reformatted in a style similar to that outlined above, I think the user would more quickly gain the information they are after (i.e. Should I try Yoga to treat depression?).  I think this will keep users coming back to the site and keep them engaged.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I really haven’t seen a site that relies on user input to give health advice.  I know some may not feel comfortable with the idea, but it is no different than a breast cancer patient asking someone who’s been through the same experience for their advice.  I often rely on first-hand experience from friends after I’ve learned what I can from official sources such as doctors or textbooks.  I think this is a very unique and intriguing idea and I would use it myself if the user interface were improved a little more.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

    Bothersome:

The floating feedback box is very, very annoying.  If I want to give feedback, I will find your contact page and submit it there.  This would definitely discourage me from using the site.

Also, I counted five separate navigation bars (including the breadcrumb) in the site’s header.  This is simply too many to be allowed.  I would try to reduce this to three, at the very most.

    Suggestions:

Move the share/follow buttons in the orange bar to a top spot in the right hand side-bar – this is where users expect to see share links, anyway.

Then move the “What is it? 32 Treatments Medicine, Etc” links into the orange bar.  Do away with the home link in front of “What is it?” – it’s redundant because it’s already available next to the site’s logo.

This would reduce the number of navigation bars to a minimum.  I would also like to see the Sign In/Sign Up and Help links combined with the navigation next to the site’s logo and the search box moved up.  This would bring the navigation bars from 5 down to three, which is much more manageable.

    Good:
I do like the “Related Questions” module.  If the question I’m on isn’t exactly what I’m looking for, I may find what I need there.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

I absolutely would.  If I can take a few minutes of my time to help someone else with a terrible disease or burden, I feel I’ve done what’s right.  Again, I really like the idea of FoundHealth.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

I just wanted to review which things I think should be changed to make this site more user-friendly.

    1) Add a tagline or “How it Works” link that is easily noticeable on every page so that users won’t be confused about FoundHealth’s purpose.

    2) Streamline the voting system so that user’s can obtain an immediate assessment of whether a treatment is worth pursuing without having to read through the comments.

    3) Move the contact box to its own page.

    4) Re-organize the navigation bars to reduce user confusion and site clutter.

I would definitely use this site if something was done to address the above.  Additionally, I do not think users would be turned off to using the site to share their experiences because they can register with usernames that makes them, essentially, anonymous.  I look forward to seeing what you do with our suggestions.

  5. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

The landing page you’ve had us look at seems to be a poll and feedback from users about yoga and its effect on depression. From this landing page, I’d infer that your site is either a community based on health and wellness issues or a “poll” site with no specific purpose. I say this because there is little/no company voice in this page. More on this a little later.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

The page doesn’t prompt me to take action. I can see where the call to action should exist, but I’m not seeing it. For example, in the “article” heading Your Experience, Show What Can Work, there should be an explanation or question posed. This could be, for example, “Does practicing yoga help alleviate/treat depression symptoms?” Then, in poll box, there should be a clearer call to action. This could be done in the “xx people have yy”, by putting a byline like “click to share your experiences” or something similar. Finally, on all pages (maybe in the right column, in an infobox), there should be a brief blurb “branding” FoundHealth as an online health and wellness community, and directing customers to sign up for free to share experiences, connect w/ members, etc.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

The site, the way it’s set up now, looks a lot like Yahoo! Answers. Not that that’s a bad thing, but I don’t usually view Yahoo! as authoritative, so the unconscious association may be more negative than positive (I’m not sure how other people feel about this; that is pure personal, otherwise unformed opinion).
I will say, in terms of layout, everything is very clear, but not necessarily bold. You have a good sense of color and perspective (the logo and navigation bar are just big enough, but not too big, the columns are well proportioned).
I visited the home page, and that, I think, is very well laid out. It’s similar to WebMD, however, it loads much faster and its clear that there is a strong support community behind the project from individual users, healthcare providers, and your established partners. All of this is very visible, and I think that’s great. The text on the search bar on the front page should appear in the search bar in the header for other content pages, to make it clear that people can search ANY health issue from ANY landing page.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

The only thing I find bothersome is the balance of color; the goldish/brownish and the blue you have contrast well, and both are visually appealing. However, depending on the page, there’s an over-abundance of one color in favor of another. On the front page, there’s a bit too much blue (how to fix this below), and on the content pages, there’s not enough blue. It would probably be a good idea to change the “gold” header bar to the blue used on your front page, to create continuity of page elements across all pages – it’s part of the overall branding.
For the balance on the home page, this could be easily accomplished with CSS. Maybe try having the colors change on text links, in addition to the text decoration, with an a:hover tag in your stylesheet. You could also introduce the brown from your logo in the table – maybe a muted brown instead of muted blue for the page background? These are all pretty fast suggestions; you’d want to do a site compare test to really evaluate how effective the color change could be.
One other color suggestion: Try doing a mockup (or a site compare) with the header shaded a light blue. I’m not exactly sure how effective it would be, but the lack of “any” geometry is just slightly unsettling to me. I think having either a rounded rectangle, visible spacers, or just something there in the header would help tie everything together for me. Again, test it, but it might be nice.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

Maybe. I think it’s great that you have medical professionals and wellness experts providing helpful information, and that’s great. On the landing page given, there is only individual user information. Both are good, but there is very little individual user feedback on pages “built” by your experts. Maybe a call to action on these content pages such as https://www.foundhealth.com/melanoma/herbs could be “share your experiences with this treatment plan” or something similar. It would help encourage regular contribution from users across different groups of experience.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

The big thing I feel is missing, like mentioned above, is the lack of connection between the “experts” and the individual users. On informational pages, there should be a clearer call to contribute information than just the “comment” box on the bottom. I like the idea of having a poll, and having people vote (I’ve tried it, I’ve perscribed it, etc) like you have for the yoga and then sharing their experience. Of course, moderate it, but you suddenly have a much wider body of valuable information.
As with all startups that advertise they’re a beta, there should be a clear roadmap, ideally with milestones and projected dates. That is part of what defines a beta, and since the OSS (open source software) community has really defined the idea of the web-based community, the roadmap is necessary.
I love that there is a credible body of reviewers, panel, overseers for your company, and that you make it visible to users. Don’t ever change that.
Make a link in your navigation to your outside PR/media content like “Media”. It could be articles about your charitable contributions, people joining the company, press releases, and internal announcements. Having it categorized all in one place is just smart, and for a company that offers a service or community, it’s something I always look for.
Looking “under the hood”, your code seems pretty clearly laid out, with a minimum of in-line CSS. If possible, delete the in-line code that is there and delegate it to a stylesheet. This will only make updating simpler. Also, since your code is already pretty clear, this isn’t a big deal, but I’d comment more page elements than your header and footer. This way, if you have someone else come in later, or you have a design change, it gets much simpler to delete/modify page elements. I’m guessing this is based on a template system, where each page element is actually its own file; in that case, it’s as simple as commenting the beginning and end of each file.

  6. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

The page is about depression and seeking ways that helps such as Yoga.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

I am very much into “Health” mental and physical.  I do believe there are other things a person can do for depression than to take meds.  I have heard and I believe that yoga and other physical activities do help with depression.

From looking at your page, I would read the comments that people stated because I believe in this and I would like to hear people’s comments on it.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

This site actually does not compare well with others.  I think it’s great that you have it to where people can make comments, but you need more.  If you are wanting people to try “Yoga” for depression than you need to have articles or scientific proof on your page.  Articles and scientific proof is what other sites have on every subject in which yours doesn’t.

Your page seems to be about other people’s opinion on subjects such as “Yoga and depression”.  Opinions is great but people need more in order to want to try it out or get involved.

What do you find bothersome about this page?

I find it bothersome that there is no articles concerning these subjects on your page.  Once again, it’s just everyones opinion.  Second, I do not like the “Feedback” box on the right bottom that follows me everywhere I go.

    What do you like?

I like that people can make comments about their experiences and the tabs “I’ve tried it” and “I’ve prescribed it”.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

If I tried it and I found it to have helped then yes I would add my experience.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

Overall, I think the site is a good site.  It is easy to understand and easy to navigate which is very important.  There is just a few things that I feel you can change to make it better.

I think that you should add articles from doctors or scientist which states that these things work or helps.

I think you should get rid of that “feedback” box that follows you around the whole site.

I was going through the site and notice some articles of research studies on some of the things such as “Folate” but there are subjects that don’t have that such as “Yoga”.  I think you should provide articles or research studies on every subject.

The sign up process was simple and easy to understand.  I really like the “FaQ” page which also includes “Glossary”.

  7. Thank you so much for your feedback. I have quick question. Did you notice that this page in the bread crumb? Did you notice that the link previously is an article on Depression and Yoga? How could we have made it more obvious that content was available to you?
    Thanks again!

  8. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
This page is about depression and yoga. I think this site gives information about illnesses and remedies. Such as depression and the use of yoga to help diminish deprssions in people.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
Actually yes, I think doing yoga to help diminish depression symptoms would definately be something very well worth trying. It is actually a very good tool to get your body pumping and your mind off depressive thoughts.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?
No I have not seen a site such as this one.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?
I liked the article information as well as the feedback and comments that were also listed so that people can add things that the article might have missed.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
I would if i had experience in this particular situation.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I think so more information or other suggestions in the article would be useful. To just mention one suggestion for relieving depression isn’t useful.

  9. Thank you for your indepth review. Its very helpful and we will likely implement many of your suggestions. Did you navigate to our home page? If so, was it clearer who we are OR was it also confusing?

  10. What do you think this page is about?

The page seemed to be about depression and yoga.  Writers talked about thier expereinces and thier recommendations.

What do you think this site is about?

I believe this site is about finding positive ways to deal with depressions.  Yoga is calming and I think the website is encourage sufferes to try this exercise as a form of therapy.
Does this page prompt you to take action?

While I don’t suffer from depression, I do think that i would want to try this if I were.  People seemed to have postive stories to tell and I would try it.
What action would you expect to take?

I would try to find a class nere me to see if yoga would aid in easing my depression.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I have never seen a site like this.  Many sites give suggestions as to treatments for depression, but I’ve never seen one go into this much depth on the subject.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

I found the page to be very busy.  My eyes almost didn’t know where to go because of this.  I think that if the paragraph in the middle stood out more, I would have been more focused on reading it first.

I do love the fact that people could write in an give thier stories.  It must be very comforting for those suffering with depression to hear from others who share thier feelings.  I also think that by creating a forum, it encourages people to try something they may never would have done without the online encouragement.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

I would.  Depression seems to be a very lonely disease.  Being able to share and help others seems therapeutic in itself.

  11. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
This site appears to be about health issues.  The landing page that the link provided specifically discusses depression and the use of Yoga.  The site provides and interactive opportunity for the user to read about others experiences and share their own.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
If I suffered from depression, I believe this site would cause me to search more for relief options.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I have found a similar site “empoweryourself.ca” that is more blog based.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

The page assumes the reader is self-diagnosing depression without establishing a clear definition for depression.  Additionally, there is no reference to seeking professional assistance to deal with depression.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

No.  As previously mentioned, I do not suffer from depression nor do I believe I am qualified to make recommendations for peoples health issues.  The things that work for my benefit may have adverse effects on others.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

The intent of this website is genuine and could be useful.  It should be circulated amongst the professional ranks of the healthcare industry first.  This would lend credibility to the site and put some of the readers fears to rest.

  12. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
When i visit ur website, the first thing is saw is ‘Experiences with depression and yoga. It give me a thought of this site is somehow related to the title. The page is displaying the comment and feedback by ur members. The site is about helping people who suffering from health problem and can search for ways to solve their problem.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
If im suffering from depression, the site definitely will prompt me to take further action such as look for more information about ur services and the treatments. Ofcoz i like to read what people give comment about it. It can gain more confidence toward ur site.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I never search for website in this aspect. So i dont really seen a site or page like this. But i think, site like this is helpful to the society. I believe many people will have facing health problem and they definitely will search for help and ur site is what people looking for. It is because what people want is real comment by people around the world. It’s not like an author who promoting their site by stating all the benefits which people dont really have confidence. they will prefer someone who have experienced it.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?
What bothersome is the sending feedback feature which is keeping following when i scroll down. I think u can fix it at the bottom of the page. The page is simple and easy to understand. I can easily know what the page about with the title. With both ur options about i’ve tried and i’ve prescribed it, it’s very clear for visitor to know how many people actually tried it. with the helpful good or bad symbol is great and simple.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
I will add my experience on this page. It’s because it’s very convenient. I tried to type some comment and post it without signing in because i dont have an account for this. Bt it directly prompt me the sign up form without asking me to sign up myself by clicking sign up button. It’s convenient. If u want more people to sign up and share experiences for this. I suggest that u can benefits them such as giving reward points. The reward points can use to change some items. Or u can think of something else which can make ur members feel they get something from sharing experiences. It just a suggestion to increase more members. Because some people dont really wan to do thing without any reward. I saw the top contributor at right side of the page. It’s also a good way to encourage members to share their experience.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I think i have share most of it above. Overall ur site is good and it can help alot of people. The only thing is that u need to attract people to share their experiences in ur site. Which is ur features must be convenient. I go to ur home page and i can search for health information that i need. It’s a really good feature to help people. But the only thing is u need enough informations to help others. So in the homepage i suggest that u attract people to sign up for ur site then let them to choose weather they want to share experiences or search for informations. U can add the benefits of sharing experiences such as stating that (i), there is alot of people need help, if u have experience on any health problem and share it here it wil help alot of people. (ii). ur information can help alot of people. U can add more to encourage people to share their experience or reward something like i said above. If u want to have more members joining and sharing informations. Once u have lots of informations, people can found what they want in ur site then ur site can be a very professional website which help alot of people. People have more confidence on ur site and will definitely suggest ur site to others people who need help if ur site have the informations that they want.

  13. Hi Rita,
Yes, I did navigate to the home page, I just didn’t comment on it because it wasn’t one of the feedback questions.

It was easy to recognize FoundHealth’s mission based on the large bold text headers in the top third of the page (Learn more about our mission, Share your knowledge and expertise, etc).

A critique of the home page would take another page of text, but in general, you want to minimize the amount of information on the home page to make it less overwhelming to the user.

I would also suggest putting a background in a different color behind each of the main sections or points that appear below the header.  Without that separation, things run together and it makes the page appear cluttered rather than organized.

After looking a second time, I can see the thin gray borders around the sections, but they are so light they are almost indistinguishable from the background.

Finally, there is no footer on the home page.   This line: “© 2011 FoundHealth, Inc. All rights reserved.
FoundHealth does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.” should definitely appear there, along with your privacy/terms links.

Those are the three main things I would suggest.  I will check back in a while to see what you’ve done!

  14.

Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

The Page indicates what people might think about yoga and it’s effect on depression.  This looks like a forum-based website where people can leave their personal feedback regarding a certain health topic.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
Yes.   If I were to take action, I would read some of the comments listed and research further regarding depression.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?
Yes.  This site is very streamlined and neat.  the comments are listed in a nice size so that you can see them right away.  The headline is very prominent; therefore, you know what people are commenting about.  There is not a lot of clutter like some other sites of this nature have.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?
I like the visual of the “tried it buttons.  I think that adds something new to the page.  I disliked the black box in the bottom right hand corner.  I would like it better if were on the page and didn’t stay in the corner.  It is a bit distracting.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
I would add my experience to this page for the simple fact that it looks fun and user friendly.  It doesn’t look “depressing”.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

  15. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
Spending only 5-10 seconds on this site, I think that it is either a sort of community website or an online selling store. Although I could see the “foundhealth” logo. There was so much information and writing that I could not focussed on one aspect of this site. Specilly the great amount of comments, which kind of simulates the idea of “happy consumers” that a lot of marketers do.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

Honestly, upon seeing a website like that for the first time, I want to run away. There is simply too much information going on, and no fixed point.
On the other hand, if a friend directed me to this page, I would try and read the links firstly, to understand where I am. And after quite a while only, that I understood I was on the experience page.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I did some navigation from the home page and the other links, the website is quite unique in its style. It makes use of a lot of spaces and not much separators.
The balance of the contents is good for all the pages but the eyeflow is horrible. Making use of three columns just does not work with so much writing and spaces.
This website is too focussed on giving a good and unique layout and forgets about the principles of good website designing.
The colour schemes are good and consistant, which is good. But the use of priorities, such as font sizes or images, are used quite badly.
A more detailed explanation about the overall website will be given after the questions.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

As explained before, the huge assault of information is one of the most aspect that I don’t like. I simply don’t know where to look at. A solution might be to make the header bigger, so that the eyes are more focussed towards the logo and the navigation rather than the huge amount of texts underneath it.
Another minus, is the repeated term “Depression and” in your scroll down links. Seeing the word depression over and over is starting to make me depressed.
We already know that this page is about Depression and health, and as such repeating the word depression is not necessary.
Another factor, is the use of priority, you can see how the words “Experiences with Depression and Yoga” and the side box “Top Contributors of the month” are pretty much the same size? This is what makes it confusing as to where to start reading. Consider either lowering the top contributor banner down underneath the “Experiences with Depression and Yogo” text line, or simply make it smaller. Similar thing for the “I’ve Tried It” and “I’ve prescribed it”, they have priority conflicts with the heading words. Remember that images (boxed in this case), takes more priority than texts of the same size.
There is also the popup “feedback” box at the lower right hand side of the screen that annoys me. I really did not know what it was for until I clicked the “+” sign. I reckon that you should make it maximise when the page loads, and then the user can minimise it. It would make sure that the user knows what it is for.
What I like is the colour, it’s nice, refreshing and calming. The screen is balanced as well and it got a nice underlining, highlighting or scrolling down functions on the button. This allows the user to know which part is clickable and which is not.
The colour of the blue on creme also contrasts well, and of course same for the black texts on white background.
A search engine is always nice and the logo is well place, only just too small to my taste. The sign in, sign up and help are well placed as well.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

No I wouldn’t. Apart from not liking to comment about my experiences by nature, this website does not seem to be much active. This being in the beta version, of course it wouldn’t but I think that if there were more members I would be more keen to share my experience with everyone, specially if it was a really good one, a near life changing experience.
Even if I am not commenting, I would click on the “I’ve tried it” or “I’ve prescribed it” buttons.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
Each time I click on the links of this page, the page seems to load again everytime, eventhough only the ocntent page needs to be changed. Coding your website in such a ways that the top and side bars load only once, would allow a faster loading of the page, as only the content will be changed. And furthermore, the blinking for when the page changes is quite dazzling to the eyes in the long run.
Another part that I would change, I would probably make the fonts slighty bigger, or more spaced. Maybe include a summary at first, and then a “read more…” link at the end. This would enable the user to just skim through the summary and see if they want to read the comment or not. Of course, this would apply only to longer comments.
You might also apply a “sub menu” side bar on the left for each link. For example, for the link “Diet”, when you click it, a left hand side menu would appear with the “Depression and Fotale”, “Depression and Microbiotic Diet”, etc… in it. Note that the words Depression should be removed, as it is repeated too much.
Another feedback, would be to try to make a light-gray background behind the “wrapper” of the page, like on this website there is the white-background wrapper and around it, it is dark-gray.
Lastly, where is the comment box in that page? On the other pages, the comment box should be before the references.

  16. Feedback sought:

Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about? The site is an informational website about all sorts of health problems. The page is showing information about depression but you could click on other things. There are tabs for other alternative treatments.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take? I would love to click through and see all the other pages. You can also link to your other social networking sites.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those? It kind of reminds me of earthclinic.com. I often refer to that site for alternatives.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like? I like the tabs on the top. I like the colors and the simpleness. Its about the information.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why? I would if I had something to share. Looks safe and it might help someone.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have. I like it. I will probably return to it again.

  17. Feedback sought:

Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

The web-page basically is about the illness of depression, and different remedies for the illness. It also asks the question have you tried Yoga or been prescribed it. This is a health service web site, with the specific page dedicated to the illness of depression.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

I think this page would, if I suffered from depression, would prompt me to learn about different remedies, and treatments for the illness, which include, Herbs, Yoga, Tia chi, Medication, and counselling. Very informative.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

I work for a mental health charity (voluntary) and believe this web site is a very informative web site, with information on all different kinds of treatment for suffering from depression. It is an excellent web site, and compares well with other such web sites.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

I think the colour scheme could be improved upon, and maybe the layout could be slightly improved upon. The web site is an excellent resource for people who suffer from depression, or families who have a member who suffers from the illness.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

I would offer my experience to this page, but unfortunately I have never done any Yoga. But I am interested maybe in the future to take up yoga.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

A very informative web site, which gives information on all the different treatments for depression I can think of. Maybe minor improvements on colour scheme and layout might be needed. But I mark the web-site 8 out 10. :-)

  18. Did you notice that this page in the bread crumb?

To be honest with you I have no idea what you are talking about with the “Bread crumb”.

Did you notice that the link previously is an article on Depression and Yoga?

I went and looked at the site again, and yes now I see the link to the articles.  I must have missed it the firs time around.

How could we have made it more obvious that content was available to you?

If you just go to the page of comments about Yoga and Depression, the article link is not obvious.  The link the on the lower right side of the page.  First you have to go through a long list under “Have you tried these treatments”.  I think it was easly passed up because you assume the following links are part of the list.

I think it would be easier seen if the links for the articles came first and then the list of “Have you tried these treatments”.  The links and heading of all these links on the right side are all done in the same color which again makes it easy to pass up.

Another suggestion you can do if you’re not wanting to change the order of the links is to make the “Related Articles” black and bold, that way it stands out more.

  19. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?  The page is a place for people to share their experieneces with yoga as a treatment for depression.  I do have to admit it took longer than 5 to 10 seconds to determine this however.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?  Yes.  With the “I’ve tried it button” in the middle of the page it leaves little doubt as to what is expected of the reader, (if they wish, of course).  The comments of previous visitors is already displayed, so you are prompted to read.  This would then lead to encouragement and then with luck for the reader to leave their own experience for future readers.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?  No.  But then again my family and I have been blessed with good health.  So, I conducted a breif web search for sites that contained treatment options.  Most I found were specific to one type of ailment.  Also, I found personal stories about specific ailments, but those sites did not contain an extensive list of other treatment options.  All in all, this site seems to be unique in its comprehensiveness.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?  Personally, I don’t like the gold color scheme.  I went to the home page and noticed the home page banner in blue.  Again this is a personal opinion, but I liked the blue (especially for medical content) much better.  I would like to see the blue scheme more through out the entire website for a more cohesive feel.  Also, I understand the comments being visible helps promote user participation, but it can be visually overwhelming.  That was why it took me longer than 5 to 10 seconds to identify what the page was about.  I do like the “I’ve tried it” buttons.  This too promotes user participation.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why? Yes, if I were disposed to leaving personal stories about myself.  First, It was the only site (all be it, a short search) that I could find that allowed such interaction AND had such an extensive list of treatment options.  Second, with the comments readily available the reader is compelled to read other peoples stories, making it easier for the reader to participate themself.  Finally, the “I’ve tried it ” button prominently place in the middle of the page really entices the reader to become a participant.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.  The concept behind the website is good.  Like I have already commented, it is unique with such a comprehensive list of treatment options for an array of ailments.  It provides professional insight as well as real world stories from previous users of the various treatment options.  Unfortunately, content alone does not dictate success.  Serious users will get past the lack of visual cohesiveness, and find the site usefull.  I think with some minor layout fixes to help create a more visually relaxed a pleasing page you could get the casual browser as well.

  20. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
I think the page is about people relating their experiences with treating depression with yoga. People who have tried it can express that as well as comment on the actual experience of taking up Yoga to treat the illness. I think the site is a health related interactive site that empowers people by learning on their own about various illnesses, treatments, symptoms as well as share their experiences with others.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
Absolutely yes. I would take the action of clicking on “I’ve tried it” and then I would comment on the comment box about my experience while taking Yoga. I would expand on the pros and cons of this activity and which types of yoga I prefer, etc., etc. If I liked what others have to say about the subject found in this page I would share it on my facebook page or email it to whoever I thought could benefit from the information.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?
I’ve seen pages like this one, but, not necessarily about the subject of this page. The format is very common to other sites I’ve seen in that I have the option to like/dislike and add my comment, I can also share with others via various social network tools. What is different about this page, however, is that it takes an extra step to ask the viewer if he/she has tried other methods for depression under the “have you tried these treatments?” box on the right side of the page. I find this very informative.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?
I don’t find anything bothersome about this page, on the contrary, as mentioned above I really liked the additional alternatives question box on the right hand side. I also like that it’s a page specifically geared towards people with this condition and it encourages them to tell their experience. I think this is a great way to learn about this condition and it encourages people to take charge of it as well. I like how easy it is to understand what to do.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
Yes, I would because I want to exchange experiences not just read what others have to say. I also feel that what I have to say may be similar to someone else’s condition and I can help someone understand their depression better and vice versa. It is a good way to better understand an illness/condition and not feel alone while enduring it.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I think the purpose of the site is a great idea and great tool to give people who have certain conditions or have loved ones with certain conditions. It is definitely empowering and informative. I think it would be a great idea for this page to add other options as to how yoga helped people and then “like” those options. For example, did yoga help you:
Feel more relaxed? Relieve your anxiety? Interact better with others? Less depressed? Sleep better? etc., etc.
Then, give members, the option to like these options also to expand more on the effects of yoga on depression. Maybe have a graph with % indicating which aspect of yoga helped depression the most…or something like that.

  21. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

The page seems to be about yoga and depression. How doing yoga could help with depression. I think the website is a heath website where users can choose a topic and read information about it.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?

Personally, no because I have never taken a yoga class. If I had though, i’d be prompted to comment about my experiences with yoga and if and how it made me feel better.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

It kind of reminds me of something like WebMd. But I have never seen something exactly like this. I do like how it asks on the side of other treatments that one may have experienced.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

I like how it asks the viewer if they have experienced it. It is a way to involve the readers in the website and connect to them. I don’t see anything off hand that I don’t like.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

I would if it were something I have tried. I think its good to compare and hear what other people have done and how they felt.

  22. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
The page is about depression and yoga. there seems to be other buttons to explore other treatments for depression as well.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
I think if I was dealing with depression and I had an issue with prescribed medications, I would be very interested in this site. It appears to be a site which values many different types of treatment options
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?
I don’t do a lot of healthcare searches, but the ones I have done are normally very confusing and don’t always yield the information I am looking for.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like? This site was very well designed. It is interesting that real people’s comments and experiences are at the forefront of each treatment option, although I’m not sure a laypersons view should be front and center.  It was very easy to navigate to a specific treatment, for instance Depression and MAOI’s. This link gave a brief overview of uses, side effects, research, and additional references, without being to wordy or technical. I would like to say I found fault with SOMETHING on this site, but I really did not. Maybe it was a bit bland, but it’s a medical site. I don’t expect bright, colorful and busy.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
I absolutely would add my input. I think we can learn a lot by sharing experiences with different treatments, as not all treatments work for every person.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I really liked this site. I was very thorough. It offered many options for treatment and gave additional information about each treatment. I do think it is important that they gave references for further information on each treatment option, as we should not make health decisions based on what some lady in Iowa experienced. That being said, there is value in those opinions voiced. I would be very apt to put this site on my favorites. I think it’s that good!

  23. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about? This page is about using the practice of yoga to treat symptoms of depression. The site appears to be a health related site where there are pages for different diseases/health concerns that offer different kinds of information for that problem area.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take? This page had very positive feedback for yoga as a form of treatment for depression. If I had a severe case of depression or anxiety then I would definitely find this page’s information helpful. If I needed something to “calm my mind” then I would probably try a yoga class as these people had done. One thing this site makes me want to do even more is search through each subcategory for depression and see what other information there is on the disease. I would probably also search other diseases or health concerns such as diet.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those? I have seen many sites like this one. It is similar to sites such as WebMD in that it has health information with pages designed specifically for each disease. This once actually seemed easier in terms of less photography/ads.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like? I find that the colors on the page are sort of plain and unexciting. It makes it look “homemade” instead of professionally designed. Other than that, I liked that it is simple and to the point and provides many avenues of information without going overboard.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why? I do not suffer from depression but I have done yoga. I would add my experience of feeling very connected and relaxed while getting in a good workout. I would add it because it seems like a simple task to add to the wall and the way the experience would be displayed would look nice. Many times, a blog area will look disorganized and tacky, but this one does not. It is easy to read.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have. The name of the site is not very exciting. To make the site easier to remember to the consumer it should be a simpler name at the very least. Having health in the name is helpful but I would probably not remember the “Found” part very well.

  24. Feedback sought:

Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?

Response: This site seems to be about how alternative medicine approaches can improve mental health.

The page itself seems to deal with how certain alternative approaches, specifically yoga, can help aid depression.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take action?

response: The hot buttons at the top of the page make it easy to take quick action.  I would start by clicking on the button which refers to my experience with yoga and depression.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?

Response: I have not seen a site like this one.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?

REsponse: I do not like that this page is very busy in terms of aesthetics.  It makes it more difficult to determine the actual focus of the page beyond the overarching title.

I like that the title of the page is well-displayed and makes it easier to determine the overall point of the page, but then the focus gets a little lost for me in terms of focus.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?

Response: Not necessarily at first glance. I would want to read other feedback on the page and maybe look at the site’s homepage to determine the overall purpose for adding my feedback before doing so.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

  25. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
I think the page is about people stating their personal experiences with using yoga to treat depression. People that have tried it can express their feeling and leave comments on their personal experience of doing Yoga to treat depression. I think this site pertains to personal experiences regarding health related issues and by being able to share personal experiences with others they are also able to learn from others that post their experiences regarding health concerns and issues that they have dealt with.

Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
Absolutely.  I wouldn’t be able to click on either button as I am not a Professional and have never tried yoga but after reading the posts I will definately be giving it a try.  However, I was curious and seeking information on other issues therefore I clicked on other links, reading information that was posted and after providing this feedback I will go back to the site to see how I can sign up as a member so that I too may post and learn from others.  I will be sharing this site with all of my family and friends as I feel that all could benefit from the knowledge presented.

Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?
I’ve seen similar sites but they didn’t have as many options and/or different subjects related to specific health issues as this one does.  This site is extremely easy to navigate around on when looking for specific health issues and there is no lag from the time you click to the time the information shows, which I have come across with other sites.   There are more options available on this site with the drop down box on the right side of the page, which questions the user about other methods. I find this site extremely interesting with a lot of information available and I will be referring to others.

What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?
There is nothing bothersome about this site.  I truly enjoyed reading the information that others posted and it’s a resource tool that will allow me to research my own health conditions to see what others have done that I may not have tried yet.  I really like that you are able to view topics of specific health issues and not just general all around health. The site is extremely easy to navigate so that you find the specific information your looking for without spending hours trying to do so like I have seen on other sites.  It’s information and straight to the point which is something I truly enjoy.

Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
Yes, because I want to exchange my personal experiences with others and not not just read what others have to say. Maybe what I say will help someone else out and vise versa.  Everyones experience with methods may have different results but as long as we let others know what those experiences are then they may be more out to try them and to know that they are not alone.  I think this is a great site, it lets others know that they are not the only ones which these issues and that there is help available.  This is a great learning site and it’s an open IM for all that may be dealing with the same health issues.  Great way of communicating.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.

I feel that this form of communication with all the specific health issues is an absolute must tool for my desktop.  It’s a site that allows common everyday people to discuss their health issues, methods they have tried and their outcome for each method and although something might not work for one, who knows, it may work for someone else as we all react differently to various methods.  I really think this site will become huge because it gives the power to the individuals using it.  Whether someone is looking for information on arthritis, stress relief, backache, toothache, migranes or more serious disease information it’s all here, in one place with feedback from others going through the same issues and stating the methods and outcomes that they have experienced.  I am really going to enjoy this site and I think everyone else will too.

  26. Look at the page here. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on this page. What do you think this page is about? What do you think this site is about?
The page is presenting information on treatments for depression.  In this case, specific information is presented on individual experiences treating depression through Yoga.
Does this page prompt you to take action? What action would you expect to take?
If I were looking for a means to treat depression, this would prompt me to consider Yoga as an option.  The page appears to offer other information on treating depression, so I would also explore additional options.
Have you seen a site or page like this one? How does this site compare to those?
I’ve seen similar pages, but I prefer this example.  The site is favorable to others in that it logically lays out information without cluttering the page.  I can readily get more information on depression and all treatment options by selecting them.   I like the interactive “Have you tried it” section as well as the first hand experiences.  Additionally, it is clear that the treatment options are not limited to one or two approaches.
What do you find bothersome about this page? What do you like?
It’s hard for me to find anything I don’t like about the page.  As I indicated in my above response, there is a lot to like.  Everything is logically laid out without cluttering the page.  I like the drop down menus for the treatments and the navigation indicator showing where I am in the exploration of depression and applicable treatments.
Would you add your experience to this page? If not, why?
I would add any applicable experience I had to the page.  The layout welcomes interaction, and it appears to me that a forum like this provides helpful information to those who need it.
Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
Not much more needs to be said.  This is a good approach to providing information on very important subject matter.  It leads the user to explore a variety of options and information that will help him or her make an informed decision in the treatment of certain conditions.  I found it helpful.
