They are selling ‘stylish bags,’ as carried by the two models. It gives an impression of a college campus, suggesting their primary market. Fairly conservative or ‘preppy’ is style.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
The photography is nice, in the main image. The autumn setting, appears to me as a college campus perhaps, is very warm and inviting. The models do seem perhaps a bit more stiff than they could be, however, though they do highlight the bags being merchandised on the site as they should be. The focus of the site is not lost.

The overall layout and theme works well. Generally tasteful, and in keeping with the style of the product being sold. I am drawn in and invited to look at the more detailed portions of the site. The links at the top make the site navigation clear, and intuitive.

Jumping to the actual merchandise page, it is very clear to see what is available, and the price. Clicking on a specific item leads to a more detailed page for that specific bag. It includes details such as dimensions, and various views of the product.

The News links leads to something akin to a blog, about fashion notes. This gives the site more interest no doubt.
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
I see little bothersome about the site, aside from its perhaps not my style. Perhaps only the expressions of the models. Can’t they perhaps smile? Or at least a little less deadpan. It is a beautiful autumn day. Are they friends, or even perhaps in love? Why not suggest that. Are they happy with their bags?

I like the ease of navigation. I like the ability to quickly see some of the featured items, using the navigation buttons below the main image. I like the drop down list to select my currency — this is something I see lacking in many on line shops, despite its especially useful when looking at a foreign site. I do not want to otherwise need to convert what an item will cost in US Dollars (in my case) in, for example, UK Pounds or Euros. And I suppose the vice-versa would be for a site viewer who is not in the US, visiting a US based e-commerce site as well.
How do you think the site compares to other similar online retail sites/competitors?
I think it compares very well with other clothier sites I have seen, and used.

It is probably not in line with my personal style. However, were I in the market for a book bag, as they do appear practical. A co-worker in an advertising department for an upscale department store used to always impress on me that the essential point in advertising is to show people what was available, and what price. I’d add though it suggests how the products mesh with the viewers’ life styles and fashion sense. The site reflects a certain aesthetic well. It will appeal to a certain market no doubt, but is that not what the intent should be? I think they have done it well.

  2. What do you think the site is about?
It seems to be a store online that sells bags from Australia.

What do you find bothersome? What do you like?  Nothing bothersome, they have 5 star customer experiences and a money back guarantee.  I like that they have bags for both men and women.  The bags appear attractive and of good quality.  The site makes it easy to browse, learn about the company and buy.

How do you think the site compares to other similar online retail sites/competitors?

The overall product is like many others… same colors, uses, quality.  The sites checkout process is like any others.  Nothing stands out as unique but also not a pain in the neck to do.  I like the site, my husband needs a new bag for his computer and folders.  I’ll be telling him aout this site.

  3. People who buy things online tend to want bargains, and the bags on sale at Hip Industries are far too expensive. A simple search of bags at myshopping.com.au reveals equivalent bags at around $20 whereas the cheapest bag at Hip Industries is $100.
Furthermore, the bags at Hip are too formal and give off a pretentious and snobby look. Most young people don’t want that sort of look. That is the sort of thing old people want. This website is too specialised and does not have wide appeal. Consider expanding the range of bags or branching out into other products, and then low the prices.
