The biggest thing that stands out is “Time to learn new languages” with the robot teacher and the iphone at the bottom suggesting that there is an app for this website.

Sign up was easy and straightforward. After clicking on the sign up email link, my account is activated. I like the robot landing page. Great for brand personality.

I earned the newbie trophy. Don’t really get why I get a trophy when I haven’t done anything yet. I want to learn Spanish. I click on the flag. I start at level 1.
I know the first slide says, “What is your name?” “My name is…” “What’s yours?”
But the second slide I have no clue what they are saying and there are no pictures or clues. This is not teaching if the English speaker cannot understand it. “Como se deletrea, Juan.” I don’t know what this means. You need to teach what they are saying.
    4) Would you use the app? Tell us why or why not?
I don’t know if I would use the app. I haven’t downloaded it. I like the general idea for the website, but you need to do a better job of teaching spanish. You need to have english subtitles.I think you are saying spell your name. When I click vocabulary, it says what deletrea is in spanish. That doesn’t help an english speaker. This vocabulary needs to be defined in English.

I like your goal, and the basics are here. But from an native english speaker, you need to define it in English. Vocabulary definitely needs to be in English.
It was good that you use current celebrities (Christina Aguilera) as a visual in your “Practise” drill
It asks me what Cita means, and wants me to give an answer in spanish, but the answers are too complex for me to read or understand. These answers also need to be in English. You have complex answers in Spanish and no one learning Spanish will know what these mean on your quiz.

I think you need to evaluate where you need English and where you need Spanish when teaching.

  2. 1) Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?

The home page tells me exactly what the purpose of the website is: to learn languages.

It appears to be an app for iPhones and iPads or is that in addition it being a website?

The look would appear gives the impression it would attract younger people and is not for professionals learning a language for business travel or for adults for personal travel, for that matter. Why? The graphic with the robot and the less than professional font.

    2) Click on Sign Up, What do you think of the sign up process?

The sign up process was easy and . . . the email might be worded a little better. It says that my account is deactivated. That indicates that it was active and no longer is.

It might be better to say: “Thank you for joining [or signing up for ] Lingualia account. In order to activate your account, simply confirm your email address by clicking the following link: xxxxxxxxxxxxx.”

Introduction: It would be helpful if this also were audio, as well as visual. And it scrolls too quickly—for me anyway. I clicked to go back to the previous slide several times and sometimes it took me back 2 slides.

Now, I am quick to learn almost everything except languages. So maybe I’m not the best judge. However, I don’t think I would learn very easily from this. I wouldn’t have figured out that they men were exchanging their names from looking or listening to the lesson. This challenge was the same as I listened to the first lesson.

Is there an opportunity to practice and can the app understand what I’m saying to know if I’m doing it correctly?

The grammar lesson leaves out usted and nosotros. Why? Why is there no sound, so I can hear how the words are pronounced. Unless you know Spanish, you don’t know that “ll” is pronounced like a “y.” Yes, a student might realize it during the conversation, but wouldn’t it be helpful to have it clarified in the grammar lesson?

    4) Would you use the app? Tell us why or why not?

I would like to have an app (I have an Android) that could help me to speak Spanish. Even more it would be helpful to be able to communicate better with the many Spanish speakers here in Utah.

However, if what I saw is an indication of how the entire app works, this app would not provide me with what I would want. And it can always be improved.

I think it needs work. Getting feedback from StartUpLift is an excellent way to help with that.

I look forward to seeing the sight with improvements.

  3. 1) Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
Without reading what this site was about I was intrigued by its minimalist approach yet obvious sublime technical nuances that hinted that there was intelligence beneath it all. I scrolled down and read what it was about and I was intrigued, I’ve been wanting to learn a new language and I think this is a good way to do it since it doesn’t take too much of my time, only the time I’m able to give.
    2) Click on Sign Up, What do you think of the sign up process?
Oh the sign up is a breeze, I used deluded1986@gmail.com, my name and a password and I was in, I loved it. There was nothing confusing about it.
    3) Play (Learn) 2 minutes with Lingu – the intelligent language teacher -, what are your impressions?
I liked it but I did want to learn a different language, I already knew English and Spanish. I was hoping that there’d be other languages to learn. I do think that the set up is good and I do think it could teach a language effectively though
    4) Would you use the app? Tell us why or why not?
I would not right now because it doesn’t have a language I’m interested in learning.
    5) Please share any additional feedback/comments you may have.
I love to hear success stories from other people who have tried your services, that is always something that helps me whenever I’m making a decision whether to use something or not. I also think that there should be more languages to choose from.
