About Makeover Machine:
Super Web-O-Matic’s Makeover Machine is a quick, easy, and free way for businesses to submit their websites for a design makeover. If you have a small business based in the US and are anticipating doing a redesign in the next three months, then the Makeover Machine is ideal for you.
The makeover designs are “hand crafted” by real web designers. Most of the redesigns take place within a few days (between 48 and 72 hours); however, it may take longer. You won’t be charged for the redesign and you won’t be obligated to buy anything. Your new design will be sent to you via e-mail and is yours to keep and to do with it as you wish.

Is our service offering and company message clear? If not, what do you suggest we adjust?
The service and company message are both quite clear, but most visitors will ask the question, “what’s the catch?”  That is the first thing that  comes to mind when coming upon a site that offers a service such as this for free.  My first inclination was to search for the explanation of why you’re providing this service for free to remove initial hesitation to follow through, but was disappointed in the answer I found.  Why is it that you’re providing this for free?
What do you find bothersome about the layout? What do you like?
The website design reminds me of Old Navy. Â The pastel color scheme and 60s-70s style cartoon reminds me of an Old Navy theme. Â Not really bothersome, but wanted to point that out. Â Although I do prefer brighter colors and something that stands out more, I like this simplistic design.
What is preventing you from submitting your site?
Not knowing why you guys are providing this service for free.
Would you pass this page on to someone who needed a makeover? If not, why?
Not until I know what your company is getting out of visitors submitting their site.
Do you have reservations about our company or our service? If so, what can we do to clarify and gain trust more instantaneously?
I think I’ve made myself pretty clear on this aspect =).

Even with my reservations, I ended up submitting my site for re-design.
You should offer some before & after images of actual sites that have used your service, otherwise there’s no way of knowing what your tweaks look like.
Thanks, Eric! Very helpful feedback!

It’s funny because there really isn’t a catch. I think there is some misinterpretation on the service, however. Some feel that we’re offering free design and coding of a website; essentially an entire project for free… It’s been tricky for us to push back and say, “No, it’s just a makeover image of what we *could* do on our platform.”
Â
Do you feel that providing and image alone is “a catch?” We turn around designs based on our WordPress platform and send them as jpeg attachments to e-mails from me. We offer this for free because it’s a wonderful sales tool – allows us to “show you what we can do” with no costs or commitments.

Thanks for your feedback 🙂

Thanks! We’re working on a stand alone site of this now. As you might imagine, our before and after library is rather extensive. 🙂
