Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?I like that it’s highly detail oriented.  I like that you can see how other travelers rated their trip but I would like it if you could click on their actual reviews and not just see the stars they gave.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?I did notice the hotel reservation section and I think that will be very helpful to anyone wanting to make their trip more leisurely and not just a drive.
Checked out the forest pass section and I think it’s very smart to offer a pass that services all parks…fantastic time saver and I’m sure if you are a frequent traveler it would pay for itself in no time and be well worth the $80.00.

I think my favorite part of the site is that you can click on what season it is or you can choose all seasons.  I’ve never seen that on any traveling site and I find it to be very unique.  If I were planning a trip I would come to this site specifically for that reason.

I think the site is about planning a scenic drive or road trip in the US.

Mt. Shasta Cascade Loop – I like how the Scenic drive is mapped out, and gives the details about the trip.
I don’t understand what it means by the rest of our article is to be completed. Does that mean you just don’t have it finished or that a person needs to submit more information like on a Wiki?
Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
Yes, I see America the Beautiful annual pass.

    Actionable suggestions:
    1. I think you need more of a true homepage, rather than to get right into your service. Your homepage should explain what you do and why you are the best at it. Right now, I just see your logo, motto and then the service begins. Some people may arrive and have no clue what you are about and leave.
    2. You should emphasis more the Hotels, cars, and flights – they are in small print compared to other things.
    3. The left scroll box is in the most viewed spot, but I think this box is not the first item you want visitors to see.
    4. Your homepage should have a large button that says “Plan a Trip” or “Pick a scenic drive” so they can then come to a page to enter city, state, zip and pick a scenic drive.
    5. Your homepage should have a beautiful scenic picture of what you would see on a scenic drive to show that your brand is premium and how great it is. Then have a button leading to the product offering.

  3. Spend 5-10 seconds looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.
Sure. It’s a site that helps people plan road trips.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?
It was easy to pick a state and select a drive. I chose the Big Sur Coast.  I liked that you immediately listed some basic facts about the mileage, travel time, seasonal conditions, and service centers.  I also liked your interactive map, which allows users to search for specific points of interest.  The pop-ups on the map are a really nice touch.  I also liked your summary of the drive, which was well written and had lots of good suggestions for destinations along the way.  One thing I didn’t care for as much, though: I thought the linked destinations were going to take me to pages specifically about each destination or external sites for each destination, but clicking them only marked each point on the map. Also, I thought it was sort of a shame that you had Google ads, but I guess you have to make your money some way.  As your business grows, though, I suggest you partner with actual hotels, restaurants, tour groups, and other establishments rather than relying on Google, which looks less professional.  A couple more things I liked included the convenient hotel finder and the ability to save the drive to favorites.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
As I said earlier, I noticed and liked the hotel finder, but I actually didn’t notice anything about forest pass sales until you alerted me with this question.  I went back and looked closely, but I still couldn’t find anything about forest pass sales.  However, that might be because I chose a coastal drive, which isn’t likely to have many wilderness destinations along the way.  I went back and chose another drive, Redwood Highway, and this time I saw the “Buy a Pass” widget.  However, this immediately links to one of the most expensive passes you offer.  If you want to find a more limited, less expensive pass, you have to do some searching.  My suggestion would be to have your “Buy a Pass” widget link to a more inclusive page that features all your passes.  Maybe have a search bar or menu that enables users to select the passes they’re interested in.  The reason I’m suggesting this is because it can be a real turn-off when someone who just wants to purchase a pass to one park for the weekend is immediately faced with a sales pitch for a very expensive annual pass.  Your strategy should really be to start small–get them interested in buying a more limited pass that applies to a specific road trip–and then try to sell them on an upgrade.  There are going to be a lot of potential customers who want more limited passes, and if you make them look around for them, you risk losing them before the sale.

Home page: Pretty basic.  You could definitely jazz this up with a nice background of a road winding by a scenic vista if you wanted.  However, I wouldn’t mess around with it too much.  I like that you have your search box front and center, encouraging users to dive right in.

Hotels, Cars, Flights: No problems with your hotel, car, and flight finders. You seem to have some decent deal, although I’d have to see how they stack up against rates at other travel sites before booking through you.  I liked that you displayed your various accreditations, which helps me trust you.

Store: Didn’t offer much, which is a shame because you have real potential to expand here.  You could offer all kinds of stuff–guide books, camping and backpacking gear, first aid kits, sweatshirts.  The possibilities are limitless.  Also, it was on this page that I noticed that you keep referring to your site all in lowercase letters–myscenicdrives.com–even when it begins a sentence.  You should really capitalize it when it begins a sentence.  Otherwise, it looks funny.

Blog: Rather plain.  I liked that you added a picture in the most recent post. You should keep doing that.  It’s nice that you cover a different drive every time.  Nice way to highlight drives that users might not have thought about themselves.

About Us: Brief but okay.  Could definitely stand to flesh this out.  What inspired you with the idea?  How does your site differ from the myriad other travel sites on the web? And again, you should really capitalize the name of your web site when it begins a sentence.  I like that you have a toll-free number where I can call you.

One more suggestion: How about adding an FAQ?  Users like those.  It could include info about how to use the site, where to find park passes, how to handle problems with orders, etc.

From the logo, the tag line and information on the over-map pop-up that immediately draws my attention, I gather that this site allows users to plan road trips in the “Disney’s Cars” frame of mind – no rush, let’s just enjoy the scenery.  In short, I think you’ve done a good job at letting the user immediately know what this site is about.

On the negative side, however, the site itself isn’t very scenic.  I’m not sure if I’m completely in love with the color scheme.  The green along the top of the map area is nice, but the brown and yellow are, while rich, evocative of a sophomoric approach to web design.  In other words, users might be thinking, “Nice concept behind this sight, but it was probably created five years ago so it won’t be dependable in relation to my current needs.”  I would love to see some fresher, web 2.0 colors and an updated logo that hinted at America’s majestic mountains, canyons or rivers.

I would seriously have the designer consolt Adobe’s Kuler for more info.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?

    Like:

I like that the available routes are easily visible, highlighted on the map.  If I know what general direction I plan on going, this is extremely helpful.  Can I click on one of these squiggly lines for more info?  Absolutely.

    Don’t Like:

The ad banner on the top of the page.  Can this go somewhere else?  I understand this site is ad-supported, but the placement of this banner shoves down the content – it’s not aligned with where the map was on the page before.  How about putting it inside the div with the rounded corners as a square ad, above or below the mini-map?  Or below the title?  Anywhere but at the top of the page.  So many banners are at the top of the pages that users have learned to ignore them anyway.

    Back to Like:

This is nice.  There’s a title, brief description, then a break-down of the details.  There’s even a way to save it to your “wish list” – what a cool concept!  I also like the ability to download the map to my phone or view related drives and the map tools are nothing short of awesome, but again I encounter a few things that bother me.

    Back to Don’t Like:

Ratings are nice – but where are the reviews?  That should be easy to incorporate given all the gadgets and gizmos already present on the site.  I think your users will expect it.  The site’s colors are bothering me again – I feel you only offer route information in the Pacific Northwest (all woods and greenery) – but that’s not my biggest aggravation.

I would like to see a typographer come in here and clean things up a bit in the area that provides relevant details on the route (mileage/duration/etc).  Something about it is cluttered – perhaps the fact that, after the header, all the fonts are the same type-face and relative size, with the exception of the “Buy a Pass” section and popups.  I really can’t tell if Forest Passes and Services are two separate rows, or if it’s supposed to be “Forest Passes Services”.  Finally, in the long description, the green links underlined with red… they literally hurt my eyes.  Trust me on the color scheme things, guys.

As you scroll down the page, the layout and typography just goes downhill.  The weather forecast and tools sections look like copy-and-paste widgets.  There should be more space afer the share section.  Everything’s a bit… too big and clunky.  Users want a tight, clean, and easy-to-read design, with sections that are definitely separate from each other.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?

Yes, I did see them, but I’d like to see them featured more prominently, rather than tossed into the sidebar. This is the place we expect to see ads, guys and gals, so we might not trust them – they might be clever ad decoy designed to get me off your site and onto a different referral site that sells the hotels/passes.

Please share any other feedback you may have.

I have to share that I think whoever came up with the idea of this site is brilliant!  It’s an incredible idea, and you’ve certainly incorporated plenty of tools into the site that make it even more useful.  The site, works, definitely.  But it doesn’t excite.  It isn’t what it could be.  The implementation is lacking.

Since I’m a freelance designer – and I think visually – I thought I would just offer you a graphical representation.

    Here’s the link: https://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr347/jessicamfry/myscenicdrives.png

    I hope you enjoy!

Oh, and a last note: I think what most bothered me about the design is that it wasn’t *fun*.  If I’m planning on taking a scenic trip, I’m obviously looking for fun, enjoyment, or relaxation.  You need colors, a logo and a design that reflect that.  Don’t take my word in the colors from my sketch – they were chosen a bit arbitrarily, but you can see I went for relaxing, muted colors.  And the logo was a bit “fun”.  These are the motifs that should be explored and implemented through the use of a color palette and clean, relaxing and organized design.

  5. This is in response to Zeke’s:
“1. I think you need more of a true homepage, rather than to get right into your service. Your homepage should explain what you do and why you are the best at it. Right now, I just see your logo, motto and then the service begins. Some people may arrive and have no clue what you are about and leave. ”

I always respect Zeke’s ideas, but I actually don’t agree here.  Though I think a little more could be done with the right-hand sidebar to orient people to the brand/concept, with this site I like the ability to dive right in.

It annoyed me for years that you had to go through TWO pages on Mapquest to get to an actual map with driving directions (they’ve since changed things to be more like Google Maps).  I think that because people are familiar with Google Maps and MapQuest, they’ll be able to jump into your site with a lot less explanation than they would have been able to in the past.

In my opinion, your little popup along with the tagline does a very good job of explaining myscenicdrive.  No need for a “home page” in this rare instance.  Just a thought.

I’m eager to see what others think!

  6. Visit https://www.myscenicdrives.com/. Spend 5-10 seconds looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.
The site is about making driving trips better by giving scenic routes based on a location entered.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?

When clicking on California link in the search I was taken to a page that displayed a map with the routes in California highlighted in brown. I’m not sure brown is the best color as it doesn’t stand out very well making it hard to realize upon the first visit that those brown lines are intended to be links. Maybe changing it to a yellow would be better. I like that there was also a text list of all of the routes on the left side, being able to read a description of the routes is a good feature.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?

Yes, I did notice the Forest Pass and Hotel Finder. I like that you allow the traveler to search for Hotels, Car rentals, as well as flights, a very convenient feature to anyone planning a trip. Offering the forest pass is also a nice feature making it one less thing that the traveler has to worry about while on their trip if they can purchase it beforehand on your site.

Please share any other feedback you may have.

After entering a search and the routes are highlighted, I think a nice little touch would be to have a box pop up naming the route when the mouse hovers over a particular route.
I like the amount of information given under the descriptions of the routes. I also like that the routes have recommended seasons to visit the routes. I think this site offers a really great service and one that I would like to use on a trip where I have to time to explore the countryside.
Oh, and I’d like to suggest to get Texas added.

  7. Visit https://www.myscenicdrives.com/. Spend 5-10 seconds

looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.

It looks like a site that will help me to find a scenic drive or two in my state. I could also choose a road trip within my state.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?

Using Fire Fox, when I chose CA under “or pick a state”, I got a blank page two times. So, I tried choosing California in the space provided and clicked on the “Choose a drive” button and got a blank page two times. Then I tried Los Angeles, California and got  a blank page. I also tried Sacramento, California and got a blank page.
Thinking that FireFox might be the problem, I switched to Internet Explorer. The view was significantly different than what I saw with Fire Fox. I had a lot more choices. I clicked on California “or pick a state” and had results! I saw a map with a bunch of choices for a road trip.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?

I was disappointed because I wasn’t ever given anything but a blank page when I used Fire Fox, so I didn’t see it.
I chose the Big Sur coast road trip. I saw on the right column a place for a hotel search where I could enter the dates I’d like to stay and other information.

Please share any other feedback you may have.

I like the pictures included in the information about the road trip as well as the links embedded in the article so that I can find each place on the map. I also like that I can highlight all the hikes, water access, etc along the route so that I can customize my trip. I almost missed the weather forecast at the bottom of the page due to the advertisement and all the ways to share (such as FB or Twitter). I think the weather forecasts should have been right next to the social networks logos because they’re a big factor in planning a trip, more so than the social networks. I also like that if I had the right phone, I could download or text it to my phone. I was happy to see that there was a link to the related drives that were at the bottom of the page because I missed that, too. I like that I can share pictures, rate the drive, and make recommendations to the drive since my experiences might be a little bit different than another person’s or group’s.
I recommend making this page compatible with FireFox and other browsers.

Good luck! This looks like it will be a fun site for vacationers in the future.

  8. Visit https://www.myscenicdrives.com/. Spend 5-10 seconds looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.
Well that big map is very handy and the way that it comes up when you click on it. Also I think that it is a good thing to have if you like to travel and just check out the scenery.
Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like? Right off the bat, I did not like that it look like someone was just putting brown crayon on the map and just drawing but then it also when it came in it wasnt connected and it kind of looked a little confusing.
Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
No I did not notice that, I guess I was trying to figure out to get on the different sceneries that I was not able to look at the specific hotel information. In my opinion, that whole website had confused me and I was not able to concentrate on the big picture.
Please share any other feedback you may have.

  9. Visit https://www.myscenicdrives.com/. Spend 5-10 seconds looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.
Firstly, your websites gave me a “WOW” expression. The google map as background gives a lot of details which might not be for the benefits of the eyes.
Back to topic, I know that your website will find me a good scenic drives for me. Meaning that your website does indeed convey the message that you are looking for.
I also think that you are limited to the United State, because of the map and options given. This is reasonable as it is not expected for you to know the world.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages.
What do you like? What don’t you like?
    LIKES
The amount of details given is simply awesome! I never expected to be given so much details, and I appreciate it. When I go out for a drive, I want to know exactly what to do. Why should I take that path? and what should I do? You provided all that. Well done! You could improve by providing links more detailed history of those places, which could potentially give the user more interest.
You also gave the estimated time, length, seasons, even user’s rating. All those contribute to my knowledge that you know what you are doing and that I won’t end up in some hole in the middle of nowhere. It boosts up my confidence.
I like that you relate that page to your main page, same colour scheme, same images, layout, etc… It shows that I am still on the same website and was not redirected to another, which is good.
The google map offers various options, such as Hikes, Museum, Water access, etc… Which is exclusive to the path shown. It gives more options and more flexibility to the scenic driving and tells me, that I can change what I want to do, not just follow your directions to the letter. You could zoom in more though, on the google map.

    DISLIKES

I don’t like the brown lines that shows you the path. Brown is not really appealing and thus, you might consider changing that colour. Blue or green, are colours that represent road paths better.
It would be better if the mouse could change from the arrow to a hand when hovering over the paths, so that I know that I can click them. It is minor, I know, but minor things are what differentiates pros from normal people.
The ads that you show, are positioned very badly I must say. The eyeflow while reading is disrupted and thus is really annoying. You should the position of the ads in the middle of the texts, place it somewhere. You need to show that you care about the user and not just trying to earn money. That way, you will get more customers. Placing ads are okay, but not those that will interupt the browsing of your website.
The colour scheme is a bit old and just plaing boring. You got the consistency, but need to improve on the colours. All your colours are dull and dark. Clearer and brighter colours might help you with that.
I also personally don’t like that the links are underlined, it just makes my eyes hurt a bit. But that’s just personal preferences. A simple CSS in the HTML addition should fix that:
    <a href = “LINK” style=”text-decoration: none”>Word linked</a>

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
No, I didn’t. I just thought that they were ads… You should not put them in the same columns and the same format as your advertisements. Change the colours, change the layout, just change something. It is way too similar to your ads and I thought it was one of them.
While viewing a webpage, a person looks firstly at the top left corner, that’s the first impression and thus the why your logo should be there. Then they look at the center and concentrates there, where your body should be. Next, they slightly see the right and left, where your sidebars are. The eyes DO NOT focus on these, they just know that they are here. That’s where your problem lies.
The sides are researved for navigation or extras, so that the user know they are here, subconsciously. I willl know that I can navigate from the left/right BUT I will not know what is in there. That’s why I thought your pass/hotels were ads. Because my eyes did not focus on them and did not read any of the words. I just saw the shape and colour and assumed them to be ads.
Worse is that they are so far to the right. Which is focussed even less by the eyes. Change the colours to something unique and it will attract my eyes more, or the shape. You can even go as far as writing in your body “Check on the right for available hotels”.

Please share any other feedback you may have.
I think that your header should be bigger, I don’t like it to be this small, because I do not really pay attention to it. The ad just underneath it attracts my eyes more… which is bad.  The header should be given way more priority than the rest, specially in your case, where the navigation toold are in the header.
Instead of writing “Hotels”, “Cars”, “Flights”, I think it would be better if you put a broader category first, such as “Bookings”, “Rentals”, etc… Because really when I saw “Cars”, I thought “Does it redirect me to a buy car website?”, that was my first reasoning.
You could add more images in your description of the roadtrip as well, to make it more entertaining. Or even add a video to let the user see how it is like? Or a documentory on the location itself, I think it would be interesting.
Another feature that could be added is to allow the people to comment on the scenic options. If I see other people’s comments as position, I would be 100% sure that it is what I want/don’t want. Thus facilitating my choice.
I hope those feedbacks will help you with your website. Best of luck!

  10. Visit https://www.myscenicdrives.com/. Spend 5-10 seconds looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.
This site is about different scenic drives you can take while traveling or being on vacation in the United States.  You can search various states to find more information on hotels in that area, flights, or cars.  You can basically plan your entire road trip using this website.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?

I like the following: That you can see how many miles it takes to get to that location, the duration that it takes to get there, and that it describes the scene of the area you want to visit.

I dislike the following: There are a lot of ads on the page, that serve as a distraction from the main focus of the descriptions.  You have to read around the Google ads and there are various columns stuck on the right side, that seem misplaced and cause the page to look cluttered.  The page could be more professionally designed with fewer ads and more focus on why customers should use this website to plan a vacation, instead of using someone elses.  Not extremely user friendly with a lot of navigation and reading around and in between other ads.  Needs to be more simple and more organized.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
I think having a hotels tab is smart and helpful to customers needing a place to stay while on vacation.  The hotels tab is easy and convenient to use.  I found the hotels page to be a nice layout and easily accessible.

The Forest Pass is a nice website addition for those it may interest.  For me, it is not very intriguing to buy from this website.  I did not see why I should buy it from this website because I did not feel an impulse to buy.  I enjoy seeing a well organized and colorful page of wording and pictures explaining why this is an item I should purchase and what I can truly get for my money. When I first clicked on the Forest Pass link, the first page to open is National Forests and Parks Pass, which I found to look boring and plain without any need to buy anything.  I question as a buyer: Why should I buy this item from you?  and I would look at your website for that answer.  That answer comes in the form of; how well the website is designed professionally, can they compete with competitors, what will I get out of it, nice colors on the site, well detailed descriptions, etc.

  11. 1.Visit https://www.myscenicdrives.com/. Spend 5-10 seconds looking at the page and tell us what you think the site is about.
Taking your advice I visited your home page, https://www.myscenicdrives.com/, for about 10 seconds and I reached the conclusion that your site is a web-based tool that will facilitate traveling directions, in advance, for individuals seeking beautiful surrounding when taking long road trips.  Also, what assisted me in making this quick decision was due to the fact that your home page wasted “no time” explaining its’ purpose. The top of the page began with the statement, “a different road trip awaits” and then, in a glance, the “Welcome to myscenicdrives.com” box revealed, “Start planning your next scenic drive, etc.”

    2.      Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?
My California scenic route choice was the Northern Pacific Coast (From the Redwood Forest to San Francisco) because it made me think about the renown song entitled, “This Land Is Your Land” where a few of the lyrical lines are, “This land is your land, this land is my land, From California, to the New York Island, From the redwood forest, etc”. Once I clicked on the link, which took me to the scenic drive page, I appreciated the fact that, immediately, such statistics as “mileage, duration and description”, to name a few, was presented, which I feel are foremost in the minds of people taking long trips. Knowing how much gas will cost pertaining to the miles, the amount of food supply (e.g. sandwiches, snacks, drinks) needed while traveling for an extended period of time as well as what to expect in the way of site seeing are top priority, in my opinion, when planning any road trips for long periods. In addition, such options as “Activities, Food and Services” listed below the map toward the right of the web page piqued my interest, which led me to check off the boxes in order to find out what would happen. This type of setup is a huge plus to the scenic drive page not only because it attracts the attention of visitors, like myself, but it is a stepping stone for interaction with your site that may lead to searching further areas and eventually, utilizing what is being presented.
Further, I wish to speak about the area on the scenic drive page that allows one to share their destination by adding it to the site. What a wonderful idea! It makes people feel that they are not obligated to stick to a specific destination when traveling that is presented by your company, MyScenicDrives, but their opinion matter, which proves your business values what the consumer has to say above your own.
Last, but not least, creating a download link for the map or text to one’s phone is most helpful with a surprise transport to the owner of a GPS, which is what most individuals utilize while traveling today.
Thus far, I have shared the positive views pertaining to your site, MyScenicDrives.com. However, there is one particular finding that I found very disappointing. When reading the paragraphs describing what to expect when traveling my California scenic route, the Northern Pacific Coast (From the Redwood Forest to San Francisco), there were links about various places like, Salt Point State Park, Standish Hickey State Recreation Area and Muir Beach Overlook. However, when I clicked on those links I was expecting a photo instead of highlights on the map indicating the location of these places. I strongly believe that a visual showing of the sites I selected would have made a better impact; perhaps, causing me to finalize my trip arrangement and proceed with the downloading of the travel route to my phone that could be transported into the GPS.

    3.      Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
No, the Forest Pass Sales or Hotels was not easily recognized. Instead, it took a few steps in order to have access to choices of hotels. For example, it wasn’t until I checked the option, “Services” below the map on the right-hand side of the scenic drive page that various routes represented by numbered boxes appeared. Then, I had to click on one of the numbered boxes, which resulted in a popup box that provided the link, “Find a Hotel”. For example, clicking on the S2 route number led me to a choice of 28 hotels in Westport California; the lowest rate a night for $45 at Lark Motel and the highest rate a night for $250 at MacCallum House Inn.

    4.      Please share any other feedback you may have.
To begin with, even though the navigation of your site is relatively easy the home page could use a makeover. For starters, the links at the top of the page that begins with “Hotels” and ends with “About Us” needs rearranging. My suggestion is to bring these links, within the orange area, closer to the left-hand side of the page, just below the logo for your firm inside the big brown box, spreading them out, with the first link being “About Us” instead of “Hotels”. This is because most people are usually interested in the establishment of a company and the goal it wishes to reach in terms of benefiting the public, in particularly, consumers. Next, to the link, “About Us”, which in my opinion should be first, the second link, “Our Users” should follow. Again, whenever a product is promoted, my experience has been to find out what others have to say about the product being sold or item being presented. Afterwards, “The Blog” link should be listed. The center of the orange area is where I feel a “drop-down, search box” with the choices, “hotels, cars, flights and etc. should be placed.
In addition, the middle box area entitled, “Welcome to myscenicdrives.com” would grab the attention of visitors if it is highlighted with a bright colored background of your choice – I was thinking, “yellow”.
Last, but not least, making photos available when clicking on the links within the description section on the scenic drive page will enhance the experience of individuals visiting your site and provide them with just enough of a tease to persuade in the utilizing of your travel method.

I think the site is a tool that you can use to plan scenic drives and road trips around America.

Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?
I choose the Northern Pacific Coast route from the Redwood Forests to San Fransisco.
    Like:

I like the amount of information given about the route and how descriptive it was.
I like the rating star system.
I really liked how a little indicator shows up on the map when you click on one of the attractions showing you exactly where it’s located.
I also like that you can scroll over the little attraction indicator boxes on the map and an information box shows up.

    Dislike:

I didn’t like the brown color used to show the routes. I think a more vibrant color like blue, green or red would look much more appealing.
I wanted to be able to zoom in on the first map that showed up when I typed in California into the “find a drive” search box. I have good eye sight but I know my parents would struggle to read the town and city names.
I didn’t really like the color scheme on the pages. I think you tried to create a scenic, natural, forest color scheme but it gives more of a 70’s retro vibe. Maybe Something a bit more modern and some nicer vibrant green shades will make it feel more modern.
I didn’t find the “My Scenic Drives” logo eye catching or appealing. I thought it was very simple, maybe too simple.
On the route I choose there were no pictures to go along with the text which I didn’t like.

    Other Observations:

If you are aiming for tourists outside of America to also use this site I think that you should also include km in the mileage information.
I think it would be good to have a comment or review section that links to the ratings. Where real people can review that particular route, what they thought was good, not good etc.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
I did notice the “Hotel Finder” on the side of the page but it took me a while to realize what it was as it blends in with the Google ads and just looks like another add. The “Hotel Finder” could be another color so it stands apart from the Google ads and doesn’t blend in like it currently does. It could also be positioned elsewhere on the page so it stands out.

I think the site is a great idea and with a few improvements it could be a very successful and popular site. I definitely think the color scheme and logo should be changed as it doesn’t look fresh. I also think the home page could be improved and maybe have a slide show or a few pictures of beautiful scenes that attract me to wanting to use your tool to plan a scenic road trip.
On the route I choose there were no pictures to go along with the text but I did take a look through a few other routes and saw just a single picture. I think a small gallery or slide show with photo’s of scenery on the route would make a huge impact.

I think it’s a site to plan a trip for people who doesn’t have an specific destination on their head and wants to go on a different trip driving by themselves.
Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?
    I liked:

    – The way is structured the information.

    – There’s important things like the distance and the estimated duration of the trip.

    – “My Drives” section is perfect to gain recurrent users of the site and I think is the typical feature that someone can talk about in a party or in a social meeting, so is the best way to make spread the concept and have more visitors of the site.
    – The exporting tools to explode the capabilities of the technology having the information accessible from everywhere.
    – The weather forecast section, essential for the traveler who wants to be prepared
    I didn’t like:
    – Someone who doesn’t handle well pop ups comments like old people or keyboard users maybe don’t get the useful information you receive once you put the mouse over the underlined words at the left side. So I would recommend put below or on the left of each underlined title, a small image or a sign to catch the attention.
    – There’s almost no pictures and a lot of text so maybe you can insert some related pictures of places and landscapes.
Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
Yes I saw the information but I would recommend to add something to catch the attention and generate more possibilities to gain potential consumers
Please share any other feedback you may have.
I think the whole site it’s a good idea so I strongly recommend explode the share experiences potential to make grow the users community and spread the concept.

I am originally from California where I went to college and I know that this is a GREAT SITE.  It has some of the top American destinations and a very good mapping system on the right.  This gives details as to trail heads, visitor passes, and scenic stops.  Several of my friends love this kind of stuff and enjoy hiking.  As a tourist, college trip, or classroom education this site can be used by lots of people.
Back on the site, pretend you are visiting California and choose a scenic route. Take a look through one of the scenic drive pages. What do you like? What don’t you like?
I actually chose the South Dakota Black Hills Mountain pass.  On this tour it did feature a great detailed map and stops.  But as mentioned earlier by other viewers that they need more Hotels or stops featured.  These destinations often have unique Hotels on their tours.  Like going to Kansas all their hotels have Indians, log cabins, and Midwest food and beer you cant get anywhere else.  Same with Black Forest and Monuments. There is a famous town know by gold miners and Indians that were sought after for gold mining.  A huge Jesse James landmark in American History.  So in summary, the details of trip were great, but they should emphasize more of the historic value of the trip in American history. This would bring more attraction from class trips, family vacations, or just travel with ease.
Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
Yes.  I thought that was a great feature along with the description of trail heads and stops.

Studying history in college I think that their should be more historical insite as well as modern insight on hotels and restaraunts.  I now live in Florida were Railway system was a great historic value once put in from North Florida all way through the Florida Keys across a bridge.  This history has since been lost to newer gernations and this should be emphasized more on your site.

    – From briefly reviewing the site, I see the site as an information portal on scenic driving routes, as well as a resource for finding information on how to book flights, hotels, or car rentals, to assist with trip planning.

I chose the Big Sur Coast route, since I am familiar with it.
    What I liked:

    – The information for Big Sur gave good highlights. It provides a nice mix of tips on where to hike, museums and attractions, and picturesque areas to see.
    What I didn’t like:
    – The map that in included with the route itinerary should have the capability of popping out to a separate browser window. The map should be expandable and printable, too.

Do you notice things like Forest Pass Sales or Hotels?
    – I did notice the hotel search capability almost immediately, but had to look a bit to find Forest Passes. The Forest Passes should be singled out or highlighted more. Perhaps at the starting page, you can put a link indicating Forest Pass Sales. I didn’t think that the “Store” section would carry them.
Please share any other feedback you may have:
    -     I think that until the search by zip code function on the opening page should be removed until more routes are added. I tried putting in a few different cities first, and all of them didn’t work. If I were visiting the site for the first time, I would’ve left afterward. Instead, immediately say that you have travel information and routes plotted for the areas you do have available.
