About Napsus:

Napsus is a social browser that adds the browsing experience into communicating, with improved communication tools like text, voice and video chat, but also audio/video mail. It also has a search wall that offers a more diverse way to search the web. Contacts can be imported from major social networks.
What makes napsus so different is the text, voice and video chat built in the browser. Napsus can also be used to send audio or video mail to anyone even when the person is not on napsus.

When I first went to the napsus website, I was not sure at first what the website was for.  As I viewed the screens, it became apparent.  I enjoyed the visuals very much.  It made the website visually appealing.

From the content of the home page do you know what napsus is about and the target audience?

When first visiting the napsus website, I did not know what napsus was about because the pictures and captions moved along very quickly.  I had to read the captions a couple times to have a full understanding.  Then I realized that if I pressed on the arrow that was for going to the next image, the pictures stopped and all the captions were easy to read.   I gathered from the pictures that the target audience was young college-age people.

How do you use napsus? Is this information clear and understandable?

Napsus can be downloaded and used for free for video mail, audio and video calls, instant messaging, and even some web searching.  Contacts can be imported from social sites such as Facebook.

The information explaining this is relatively clear, but there was an error in one sentence: “ You can also import your contacts from others social sites.”  This could be better written like this: “You can also import your contacts from friends on social sites such as Facebook or Twitter.”

Please take a moment to complete the sign-up process. How easy was the sign-up process?

The sign-up process with napsus was quick and easy.  It took just two minutes for me to download napsus by pressing “Download” on the napsus website.  Then I opened the napsus application on my computer and was prompted to log in or register.  I chose the “New User?” link.  I was then able to enter my email, name, and password.  At that point, registration was complete.  It was very quick and easy.

If you have seen similar services to napsus, how would compare the napsus sofware to these competitors?

I haven’t experienced a similar service as napsus.

Napsus was easy to use, and importing my contacts was quick and easy.  I look forward to using the service to stay in touch with those closest to me.

  2. Visit https://napsus.com/.What is your first impression of the website?

My first impression of the site was that the color scheme was really dark. The logo looks a little unfinished and refined and doesn’t stand out at all with the dark background. The layout of the page confused me a little as well because there was no real navigation bar or other pages apart from the support page. However I did like the visuals on the slideshow it really brightened up the site.

From the content of the home page do you know what napsus is about and the target audience?

It was hard to initially tell what Napsus was about because the slideshow was moving far too quickly. I didn’t have time to read and take in the information before the next slide came across. The text was also very small and not very noticeable right at the bottom of the pictures.
After seeing I could pause the slide show and having a better look I gather that Napsus is a free software program that provides video mail, instant messaging, audio call and video call. I gather it is like combining email, Skype and MSN into one program.  Looking at the pictures I think your target audience is young professionals and possibly college age students.

How do you use napsus? Is this information clear and understandable?

From the slide show on the home page I understand that it’s software and from the download button I realize it must be downloaded. A caption with “Free to download click here” or something would be a good addition because people may miss the fact that it’s free. Apart from that the site doesn’t tell me how to actually operate the chat, video call etc. I think there is a lack of information on the home page. Some more pages with specific details about each feature of this software would be nice. A page that has some more screen shots and instructions of how to actually operate the software and a FAQ page would be great. I read that you can import contacts from other social sites but then how do I do that? The site has no further information.

Please take a moment to complete the sign-up process. How easy was the sign-up process?

By signing up I assume you mean downloading the software. Maybe you can change the name of the “download” button to “download and sign up”.  I downloaded the software and that was straightforward and simple. I then clicked on new user and filled out the details and then I was signed up. I like the fact that it didn’t ask for unnecessary information like address, phone etc but was shocked that it didn’t ask for my age.

If you have seen similar services to napsus, how would compare the napsus sofware to these competitors?

I have seen similar individual services like MSN, Skype etc but not a program that combines them all in one like Napsus. I think Napsus is lacking one thing over these other sites and that is it’s image. At the moment the brand “Napsus” isn’t looking professional in my eyes. The logo, color scheme and overall look of the software lets the concept down a bit. I think it is a fantastic idea and will have a go at using it as I’m often overseas and away from family and friends. But some users may be put off by the overall look of Napsus as it doesn’t look fresh, modern and professional just yet.

I think this is a fantastic idea but I do think you need to re asses the color scheme and overall look of the software and website.

  3. What is your first impression of the website?
I can see immediately that the purpose of your site is to advertise a new web browser. However, even though I had no problem figuring that out, I wasn’t impressed with the home page design.

From the content of the home page do you know what napsus is about and the target audience?
As I said, yes, I was easily able to discern that you provide a free web browser called Napsus. The target market seems to be people who want an all-in-one communication method since your browser is enabled for text, voice, and video communication. It also seems concerned with user privacy.

How do you use napsus? Is this information clear and understandable?
That’s kind of a vague question. Obviously, the user would need to download it. If you’re asking me for step-by-step instructions, well, I don’t see a user guide on your site. I suppose I would have to download the browser and play around with it for awhile to see how it works. What I know from your site is that Napsus has a search function, privacy controls, and text, voice, and video chat and messaging features. I also know that you can import contacts from various social media sites and that you can send friends audio and video messages through Napsus whether or not they have Napsus themselves.

Please take a moment to complete the sign-up process. How easy was the sign-up process?
I didn’t see any option to register an account.

If you have seen similar services to napsus, how would compare the napsus sofware to these competitors?
I’ve seen a number of browsers that concentrate on privacy. For instance, Firefox, which I use, has quite a few privacy controls as well as add-ons for extra security. I haven’t seen a web browser that has chat functions as part of the browser, but then, it’s possible that I’m just not aware of it. I get along just fine with Yahoo Messenger, AIM, and Skype, so it’s not something I’ve really thought about checking into.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.
Unless I’m just not aware of it, your browser may be the first to package chat and messaging features as part of the browser. If so, then you have something unique and possibly valuable here. Unfortunately, I don’t think your web site does a great job of selling your browser.

First of all, the home page is extremely plain. It has the look of an amateur web site, something that maybe a high school kid put together in his/her spare time. The black background looks like something I’d expect at one of those teen goth sites, and the screenshots down the left side are too small to be of any use. In contrast, you have a large, brightly colored slideshow on your Features page, which looks much more professional in comparison.

I suggest that you completely overhaul your home page. Give us a white or other light colored background and embellish it with a big, bright logo and a catchy slogan. Pick a color scheme and work it in to your site to make it more visually appealing. Perhaps use some images of people happily talking by video chat or something. Put your slideshow on the home page (though I’d recommend making it smaller than it currently is with the option to maximize). Condense your features into a few main selling points for the home page (no more than five) and place them as close to the fold as you can. For example, you might say:

The only totally private browser that brings you…
    –VOIP calling
    –Video chat
    –Instant messaging
    –Video messaging
    …right within your browser!

I’d also get rid of that background info about the naming of Napsus. That’s more appropriate for an about page, not a home page.

Finally, I’d make some changes to your navbar. Right now, you have Features, Download, and Support at the top of the page and About, Terms, and Contact Us at the bottom. It’s ok to leave your Terms page at the bottom, but it seems silly to leave About and Contact Us down there when you can clearly fit them on the top. So I would rearrange your navbar from left to right so that it reads, “Features,” “Download,” “Support,” “About,” and “Contact Us.”

One more thing: If you want people to create an account, you need to give them a place to sign up and sign in. A sign-up/log-in box in the upper right corner of the home page would be great for that.

Moving on to your Features page, I like the slideshow concept here, but, as I said, you should probably move it to the home page so that it grabs people right away. The slideshow is a great intro, but on your Features page, you want to elaborate more on how your browser works. I’d have your Features page cover each of the benefits you want to highlight (i.e., privacy, search, video chat, video messaging, etc.) with either screenshots or a brief video for each one, accompanied by some brief copy explaining the feature and how to use it.

Your Support page and your Contact Us page appear to be the same thing. They really shouldn’t be. What you have now under your Support page is really what a Contact Us page should be. A Support page should have tech support FAQs, a user guide, and/or a user help forum.

Your About page is all right, though rather brief. I would expect more from it if you were trying to actually get me to pay for something. As it is now, you tell the story behind the naming of Napsus, and this is indeed the appropriate page for that.

Before I conclude, I want to mention one more problem I found, which is that you don’t have a Home Page tab in your navbar or a clickable logo on each page that would enable me to return to the home page from other pages. Therefore, I have to use the back arrow every time I want to get back to the home page, which is a bit annoying.

That’s pretty much it. It sounds like you have a good idea with your web browser, and it’s free, which should encourage people to try it out. However, right now, you do a poor job of convincing visitors that what you have is a professional, sophisticated browser that can compete with the ones they’re using now. If you design a bright, concise, snappy, navigable home page, it should go a long way towards solving that problem. Expanding some of the other pages with more detailed information about features and technical help should also really improve your site.

  4. Visit https://napsus.com/.What is your first impression of the website?

1 dimensional. Lack of content, clarity, & mission. I think you need to improve your website to brand yourself a premium brand.

From the content of the home page do you know what napsus is about and the target audience?

Napsus appears to be a “smarter” browser.

How do you use napsus? Is this information clear and understandable?

I have no clue. There is no how to video or get started, or even a sign up button. I am assuming it is a browser that you must download from the download button.

Please take a moment to complete the sign-up process. How easy was the sign-up process?

Sadly, I don’t see a sign up button, link, or tab anywhere on your homepage, which is confusing if you want people to sign up.

If you have seen similar services to napsus, how would compare the napsus sofware to these competitors?

Are you referring to web browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera? I only use IE,and I haven’t downloaded Napsus. Just by observation of the screenshots, I think they have more money invested.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.

    1. The introductory slide show on the homepage has some good pictures and some not-so-good pictures. The Chat window of “Rama” is a poor picture and does not make your brand look premium. The picture of people are not high-quality except the one picture of the guy and the girl behind the laptop. The other pictures don’t look high-quality and should be removed. The Wikipedia screen shot does not make sense on your homepage. The synapse picture looks good. The Napsus browser shot is good and works.
Also, since there are arrows to browse these pictures, I don’t think its necessary to have the thumbnail pane at the bottom below this.

    2. I like that you keep it simple, but you need a motto or mission statement at the least on your homepage. You need selling points and reasons why we should download.

    3. The Synapse is by far the best picture on your homepage, and in my opinion, should either be the only picture, or adopted as a brand logo.

    4. I suggest you do a sample test, asking people to download and test out your browser to get honest opinions – from people you do not know and will give their truthful feelings on your product.

  5. Hello dakotalee,
