TommysAdvice looks like it is an online advice q&a/encyclopedia.
What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
Bothersome:
White space== there is about a half-page of whitespace between an article’s title and the first line of the article.Â
Some of the articles feel flat– like they were written by people with no personality or passion.
Search felt a bit slow (though at the moment I think I have a slow connection due to weather damage to service provider lines– we had a really cool storm! :o)
Like: The general concept.Â
The simplicity (straightforwardness) of some of the articles.
Reading around, there is a mix of articles and themes to appeal to a variety of people and needs.
The articles seem fairly complete and informative or provide links to excellent resources filling the information need.
Are you encouraged to have a look at other articles? You find it easy? If not, why?
I have viewed a few articles, and as said, I like the variety that already exists. I would continue to visit the site to see how it develops. I found no issues with site usability–the search engine worked well despite being slowish.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites?
While compared to niche sites (such as CNet for Tech stuff) it falls desperately short. For general Q&A on a variety of topics it is good.
I would consider it more reliable (and dependable) than Yahoo Answers.
wikiHow also has the same general content styling, however it is user-editable, which can result in deviation from original content and even false information if not monitored properly and consistently. TommyAnswers is also a bit easier to use.
eHow is the most comparable site in regards to content lay-out and general aim. Currently it has more content (it has been around much longer). eHow includes some video content. Both are generally the same in how they are navigated.
At the moment, it does not really exceed or provide much that isn’t already available. This doesn’t detract from the site, but instead provides another useful site.

In general, I like the site, look forward to seeing it expand.
Only real issue was visual: that white space between the title and text of each article. It appeared on FireFox, Safari and Google Chrome.

2) What confused me was that it says Tommy’s Advice everywhere you look, but I saw no specific advice immediately. You see a lot of Google Adsense as the majority of the web site. There were no headers of any kind under the Title of the web site. The page looked drab and offered to me that the web site owner is just looking to make money off the ads by google. Nothing captured my attention other than this was a quick thrown together site.
I really didn’t like anything about the site at quick glance.

3) I didn’t feel encouraged by anything, I’m sorry…but it just wasn’t inviting to me. You need to spend a little more time on the specific reason of the site (Tommy’s Advice) and perhaps add a picture or two at top. Personally, I would not take any advice from this website seriously.
How do you think the site compares to other similar sites?
4) I do not think it compares well at all. At quick glance, I did not view it as an web site for advice. I saw it as a place to put a lot of ads. And you threw in a little information on whatever. Just for reasons of being crawled by search engines alone, it does not appear to be set for your title Tommys Advice.

5) I wish you luck. I would try to tweek it better to establish your main goal and Title. Don’t put your google ads as your main opening. I understand they want you to place them at top, but it should not be the first thing you see.
You need to establish a good header that invites and makes a visitor feel like taking advice from you. Before they even go any further into the website. Perhaps talk about yourself a little right up front. Maybe even ad a picture of yourself on the left or right top column. It’s not that putting a web site together is difficult, it just takes a lot of time and making mistakes and we all learn as we go. Don’t just think money by the ads placed there, you have to gain trust! Good luck! you can do it….
