Visit https://weloveyoursongs.com/. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?

Music – sharing good songs with music lovers.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.

I really like the colors used – all compliment each other. Looks like there is a lot of content.

What do you find bothersome? What do you like?

Nothing bothersome found – yet. I like the overall user interface and colors used.

Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why?

    Sure.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com , uplaya.com, reverbnation.com?

I visited all of these competing song sites and they all look similar to each other, using a lot of black and “rock” colors. Your site does not look similar because it uses softer colors – like the rainbow – but I think it works for you because that color motif works with the theme of “love”. So these competitors all give the “rock” impression with the overall design colors.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community ?

I don’t know. It really looks like you are using the social networking tools to your advantage. I can’t tell you how to make it more appealing other than if you implemented a reward system or some tangible benefit from using your services.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site?

You know, I don’t know how you would develop it further (other than continuing to add contacts to your database.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.

When I open up your blog page, in my browser the title New Prizes: Great Merchandise from CMO!  letters run together on my screen and it looks like poor design. As I scroll down, it appears that all blog post titles are like this (overlapping) to where it is very hard to read. Is it supposed to be like this? Doesn’t look very professional.

I see references to Euros on this site. I wish there was an American version that offered these same contests with a $USD prize.

  2. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?
Seems similar to MySpace but with an exclusive emphasis on music. My first impression is that artists and fans can both create profiles and interact.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.
Let’s start with the homepage. Wow! There’s a lot of color here! The colors are pretty, but they’re not really uniform. Above the fold, you have some lovely pastels, but below the fold, you introduce a deeper blue, brown, and a different shade of green. The rainbow of colors is beautiful, but I’d try to go with one thematic palette like all pastels or all primary colors rather than mixing and matching quite so much.

Why so much blank space at the top of the page? I’d suggest moving your tabs up to the top and filling in the remaining space with as much stuff as you can get above the fold.

Your copy is a little formal and wordy. You could probably cut the whole thing down to two or three lines.

I like that you highlight your most popular songs and artists, and the “What’s New” section is nice too. However, I don’t think your social networking icons need to be so big and prominent. If you make them smaller, you’d have more space to move up “Competition Details” into a more prominent position. Competitions are usually a BIG draw for new and returning users at any site and more so at a site like this, where members are attempting to get “discovered.” Any info about competitions should be clearly displayed and not pushed down to the bottom of the page.

Moving on to the About page…I was somewhat taken aback by your very large advertising contact form. It doesn’t seem that appropriate on this page. I noticed that you have another small link to this page at the bottom of your homepage–“Advertise With Us.” I really think you should set up a separate page for potential advertising partners, redirect “Advertise With Us” to that page, and move the contact form there. As for the rest of the About page, you have some grammatical errors, so be sure to have a proofreader look at this. In addition, I’d love to see you expand on your “network of inspired collaborators.” Who are they?

On to the Competitions page…I don’t really like the three-column format here. Your copy in the leftmost column is getting crushed for lack of space. If you move your tabs to the top of the page, as I suggested before, you can also move that copy up into that large blank space alongside your logo. Also can’t say I’m crazy about the way the copy is worded or the small, unassuming font. You need to get people excited about this. You should use a bolder font and address the user directly: “Enter your song or band free for your chance to win a….” Follow this with “Enter Now” and “Vote Now” buttons as a call to action so that people know how to get involved.

Your ranking columns are ok with the exception that you have text running off the bottom of each column and onto the page. Also, I’m wondering if you have a system to ensure that all entrants get exposure? Right now, it looks like the current leaders are automatically given top billing. The problem with that is that voters are naturally going to start at the top of the list and work their way down until they get tired of listening, which means that new entrants who haven’t yet accumulated a lot of votes won’t have a fair chance to be heard. In order for this competition to be fair, you need to have some kind of random, rotating presentation of entrants so that all entrants have an opportunity to be judged.

Finally, I read your Rules page, and you really need to have a proofreader go over this, too. There are lots of grammatical errors, and some of them are really glaring. For instance, one sentence says, “To vote you don’t have to pay nothing.” That’s very bad English and will immediately brand you as unprofessional. (It should read, “You don’t have to pay anything to vote.”)

The Registration page has the same overly formal, wordy copy that was a problem on the homepage. Try making two bigger, bolder, bulleted lists of the features available with membership–one for artists and one for fans.

Your Browse Artists and Browse Fans pages look good except that the text in “Band Name” is cut off in your artist search box.

Your FAQ also needs some help from someone who knows English well.

It looks like you just added a blog as I’ve been writing this review. Looks like it’s focused on competition announcements and spotlighting artists, which is fine. Not digging the gray background, though. It clashes with the colorful look of the rest of the site.

What do you find bothersome? What do you like?
I like the beautiful colors (although I still think they need to be more uniform). I like that you have competitions for unsigned artists.

I’m troubled by the fact that it seems like your competition is weighted towards those who are currently leading the pack. Hence, all entrants do not get the same chance to be heard, and you also risk biasing voters toward entrants who are currently the most popular. I also find the grammatical errors throughout the site somewhat bothersome. Plus, is the site only for UK residents? I ask because you don’t list any currencies other than British pounds. One more thing: I played a few songs, and I couldn’t find any volume control. That was bothersome because the volume was uncomfortably loud.

Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why?
Not at this point, no. If I was a musician, I might sign up for the exposure or to participate in a competition. But as a fan, I’m a bit more selective about where I create accounts simply because I can’t be everywhere; there isn’t enough time in a day. At this point, I would tend to go with a more established, larger site. However, if your site became popular and started attracting a lot of good unsigned musicians, then I might sign up.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com, uplaya.com, reverbnation.com?
Compared to the sites you listed, your site is more visually appealing with its gorgeous colors. However, once you get past that, I’m not sure what your site offers that the other sites don’t. Is it that your site is the only one aimed at the British market? If that’s the case, then certainly you have something going for you there. But otherwise, these other sites offer everything you do and, in some cases, more. Their music players appear to be more sophisticated, and their artist and fan profiles are more detailed. Their competitions seem more diverse and exciting with bigger, better prizes. Some of the sites sell music and list upcoming gigs, neither of which you do. Some offer fans more options for interacting through message boards and music reviews. At least two provide opportunities for labels, management, and other industry professionals to get involved (note: it looks like you literally just added in this same feature for industry pros as I’ve been writing this review). At least two permit users to create their own streaming stations. At least one allows fans to search for local bands. And I also have to point out that there aren’t any apparent grammatical or coding errors on any of these sites.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community?
Right now, it doesn’t look like fans get to do very much except vote, leave comments for artists, and fill out a very basic profile where they can list their top five bands. I suggest you start with the profiles. Give fans more room to create playlists, display videos, post pics, blog, friend each other, and so on. You might also follow the example of some of your competitors and give fans the tools to create their own streaming stations based on their musical preferences. A message board could encourage more interaction between fans. A local search function could help them access their local music community. You might also host some competitions for the fans–random drawings for concert tickets, CDs, and the like. Or maybe give away special prizes to members who listen to and vote for the most bands to promote voter participation.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site?
Well, a couple of your competitors have done that. I suppose they did it for a good reason. I’d look at what your competitors did and do likewise. They seem to have created various tools for industry pros to manage and promote their bands on the site. Some of these services are premium only, so I expect these sites generate quite a bit of their revenue from that. In fact, if you’re not going to charge artists or fans, industry pros might be your best bet for significant income.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.
I’m primarily left wondering what your site brings to the mix that I haven’t already seen from one of your more established competitors. As I said before, if the idea is to target the UK and you are the first to do so, then that’s your big selling point. If not, then I don’t know what would be unique about your site. In addition, the many English language errors and occasional coding problems contribute to the feeling that your site lacks professionalism. This can easily be remedied by hiring a good proofreader and asking your programmer to fix a few mistakes.

  3. Visit https://weloveyoursongs.com/. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?

At first glance, the site looks like it is a community focused on promoting musicians through the Internet.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.

I like the general look of the site, but I feel like the front page is slightly overwhelming. I am not sure where to look and I hardly noticed the plain font on the “About” area. Because the nature and style of the webpage layout seems very graphic-focused the plain text was lost in the rest of it. Perhaps you should make the “About We Love Your Songs” a bit larger and make that into a button to the About page, and put more focus on the Most Loved Artists and Most Loved Songs. Also, a banner would be cool!

What do you find bothersome? What do you like?

I like the fact that you have easy ways for people to connect (Twitter feed, facebook) right on the front page. If users know they can easily check out the site through their favorite social network, they’re more likely to sign up.

The things that bug me were mentioned above.
Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why?

Actually, the first thought that popped into my head on taking a closer look was about registering. The fact that the kind of music I like, electronic, is advertised on your site and is usually forgotten about made me happy.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com , uplaya.com, reverbnation.com?

I had to go have a glance at those sites because I hadn’t hard of them before. However, your site seems a lot more modern based on the layout. Also, your site offers more ways to connect to We Love Your Songs right on the front page as I mentioned earlier. Your site is a lot brighter and enjoyable to look at.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community ?

Add a forum! It will attract more people and fans will have something to do on the site. You could also offer fan competitions, for example allowing certain artists to sign up for an opportunity to have a webcam, microphone, text, or even in-person interview with a fan who won a raffle for being active.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site?

I think it’s a great idea to have this opportunity for the artists on the site, it’s definitely worth it. Adding on to the above question as well, you could give fans a chance to try and link their favorite artists to a company that would match them.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.

It would be cool if you added something that draws people in, such as an opportunity to see an artist in a concert, or to allow fans to help artists with fundraisers to get them started.

  4. Visit https://weloveyoursongs.com/. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about? I think the site looks busy. It has too much going on when you first enter the site. Just by looking and not taking the time to read, I’m not sure what your site is about.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site. I do not find your site appealing. Instead I find your site to be busy. Possibly geared towards a younger audience, possibly preteens or teens. I say that because of the colors of your site and the pictures that you have chosen to use. The fonts in the choices area, Most Loved Song and Artist makes it difficult to read. The font for the choices is to small to be Arial Black, is it? A basic smaller font would make the artist name easier to read. For the What’s New, consider maybe a darker color for the font. The white on the background kind of clashes.

What do you find bothersome? What do you like? I find the entire color of the website with the font colors bothersome. It’s too bright. I like the brown and the purple.

Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why? No I would not sign up for a free account. I honestly would not spend time surfing through your website.  The colors are not visually appealing, and the site has a great deal going on at first glance.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com , uplaya.com, reverbnation.com? after looking through all of the sites given, the only site which appears to be orderly is uplaya.com.  I would not stop and view the other sites either.  All other sites given lack order.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community ? I would change the color. Unless you are gearing your site towards youth, I do not believe a young adult, or an adult would spend time going through your site. The font also needs to be changed. Once again, the the font is to small to use the font that you chose.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site? Once again the colors need to be changed. However, the green in the “music industry listing” is more appealing. As is the layout that you have chosen. Once again, the listing of the companies needs another color, the print is too small to be bold and it’s to much for the space that you have allowed for it.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have. In my opinion, trying sticking to the colors in your logo. Stay away from bold fonts when you are using small font. Try organizing your site by adding categories. Try alphabetizing or categorizing categories so your site isn’t so busy. Do not change the way the bottom of the page closes when you click on a new tab. That is an awesome addition to your website.

  5. Hey Zeke, many thanks for your review, we are really glad to hear you like the colors of the website!

We are honestly not quite sure what you exactly referring to when you talk about a problem with the titles of the blog posts – could you kindly let us know which operating system and browser are you using ?

In regards of the lack of multiple currencies, you are correct, this is a good suggestion, thank you. Other currencies will be added in the coming days.

    Cheers!

  6. Hello! Many thanks for your feedback, this is very appreciated.
There is just a little error in what you say because it is actually possible for artists to list upcoming gigs as you can see in this band page for example.
If you want to discuss further the other points and would like to give us some help please feel free to send us a note at info[at]weloveyoursongs.com.
    Many thanks!

  7. Hello! Many thanks for your analysis. We honestly don’t agree most of the things about the colors but we appreciate your opinion and we appreciate also the other feedback you point out the fonts. Thank you.

  8. Thanks very much for your time Natara, we think your analysis is full of great advices!
This is actually very helpful for us, thank you!

  9. Visit https://weloveyoursongs.com/. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about? I believe it is a site where people who wish to become music artists but who are not signed by a label, can come to get their music acknowledged.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site. The first thing I notice about your homepage is that it’s a nice color, very eye catching and very well organized.  I think that immediately under ABOUT WE LOVE YOUR SONGS, there should be an additional space added before the details.

Next I go about searching through each of your tabbed pages.  I love the way the page opens, by the way!

When I open the Competitions Tab, the first thing that stands out, unfortunately, is your Google Ads.  I would recommend that you try to make them a little more inconspicuous.    Again on your Registration page, I would like to see a line added between the title and the explanation.  The same thing with the Browse Artists and Browse Fans pages.

On your Blog pages, I am not fond of the gray page with the white font.  To me, it’s a little difficult to read.  I would stick to something a little more easy on the eyes.

What do you find bothersome? What do you like? The only thing that really bothered me was the Blog page as mentioned above. I think to me, as an older person with bad eyes, it’s a little overwhelming with the colors you have chosen.  I would look at going with something easier on the eyes.

I love the way the pages open.  I love your color choices and the layout of the site.  I think everything is generally all very organized.  With the exception of the few items I have mentioned above about maybe adding additional line spacing.

Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why? Of course.  I think it’s a great idea and I would love to help a new, potential artist get started in their career.  I think this could really gain some great attention and be the stepping stone some need.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com , uplaya.com, reverbnation.com? I honestly do not have an experience with other sites, but from a glance at unsigned.com, I can say that I appreciate the colors that you site has chosen and the layout of your site.  The colors scheme on unsigned.com is very hard for me to read.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community ? I like what you have going so far.  I’m not sure how you could improve other than getting the word out via all social networks.  I would also maybe suggest a contest in the beginning to get the word out and encourage others to register.  To get them more active, you might establish a point system, where people can actually vote on their responses and such.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site? I would offer a free trial, give them a free advertisement for a week or so, help them promote themselves as well as your site.  Everyone likes free advertising.   I would ask for the industry to suggest ways to improve the site at the same time.  Get their feedback.  Maybe track the amount of responses they get, etc.  Yes, I think it would be a great idea to invest more resources on this section.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have. Nothing further to add other than what I have already.  Great site with great potential!

  10. Visit https://weloveyoursongs.com/. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?

Your site is obviously about sharing news about songs. A blog or a forum? In any case, it is a virtual space where you either share information about songs in general or a place I can share my opinion on songs.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.

It looks nice at the first glance, but then you start to get lost… This is because all the elements on your website has the same “priority level”, meaning that they all attract the eyes’ attention at the same time and you do not want this.

What you want is to outline what you consider to be more important to the user. Either an element that will lead to another sub elements (eg: link tabs), or an element that will make your website more interesting thus making me want to know more and read about the little details (eg: Newest Song Review).

And to do this, you can either change the colours to a brighter one or you can increase the size of the element.
The other thing that makes it plain is that you have to background image in your header, despite using a big header…

The big header is basically creating useless space, that makes your website looks plain and blank. Consider adding an interesting image in your header, or you could simply reduce your header’s size.

The image that I propose is the one you put at the very bottom of your website, I don’t even know why you put this marvellous image at the bottom…

If someone is not interested in your heading why would they look at the footer? The footer is the least significant part of your website… Trust me, if you swap the bottom image to put it into your header, your website would be much more interesting.

I reckon that “latest tweets” should be at the top, you want to show your visitors that you are active in what to do, and the best way to do this is to show them, in the face, what you are doing, therefore the purpose of the tweets…

And again, if you put it at the bottom, who would scroll down if your website is not interested at first?

What do you find bothersome? What do you like?

    LIKES

    + Logo/Slogan – nice, colourful and interesting
+ Simple and standard template, giving a sense of familiarity
+ Ability to listen to songs with the speaker button
+ Peaceful and variations of colours
    + Search option

    DISLIKES

    – Plain header
    – Lack of priority organisation
    – Tweet should be on top
    – Useless space under footer and in header
    – Looks like the website is cramped with elements, space in the wrong place
    – Search/login/tabs button are all the same – lack of variations

Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why?

No I wouldn’t, simply because I am not that into music as to get constant news about it. That is, I am not interested in what your website offers.

But If I were interested in songs, I would probably give your website a shot. It looks like you had compasion doing this website and thus it reassures me that you are doing this only to help other people, not for your own benefit, and that is always a plus.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com , uplaya.com, reverbnation.com?

Those websites have been designed to look nice, thats for sure. But Your website has a nice “feeling” to it. As said above, it seems like your put a lot of compassion into the creation of this website and as such, it has a much friendly atmosphere, the type of atmosphere that you get when you are around your friends.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community ?

You already got the tweeter running, now how about a facebook web page? An actual fan page, where you can update information etc…

Another tools you can use is the “forum” one, where people can get their own opinions and start their own debates etc.. It would attract much more people that way.
As to advertisements, promote it to your friends, and tell them to post it on their facebook walls.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site?

Honestly, I think that it is not worth investing  in that part of the site… It is good enough. I mean your main purpose would be to share  songs information to your visitors, and as such I believe that giving them the “industry” part is over the top of what you are trying to accomplish.

Do you really think that people wouldd be interested in “amateur” or “just started” industry? Maybe some, but most would wait until those industries become famous to try their songs out… As such, leave it as is, and do not waste much time on this part.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.

Your website seems like to have a good start, you just need to get your priorities right and make sure to have less of the “table” arrangement in it. Make it more interesting with unexpected shapes/arrangements.

I don’t really like the fact that when you click on a link, the whole page contracts and expands again… Those that have slow internet wouldn’t be able to load your website fast and would be annoyed. Why don’t you just remove this and let your pages load normally? It would be best I think.

Apart from those, I wish you good luck with your website!

  11. Visit https://weloveyoursongs.com/. Spend no more than 5-10 seconds on the home page. What do you think the site is about?

When i first visit, make come through my mind is that this site is about listing the top songs been loved and most loved artist. Others i feel it’s too wordy.

Now go back to the site and comment on various elements of the site.

The home page look a little complicated for me as it’s too wordy and the words are small. i suggest you put some interesting picture which related to your site and add some description about it on the pictures. The description make it short. In this way, it may look more attracting. Your site is lack of picture which i think is too empty and full of words. To attract visitors, i suggest that you add a slideshows at the top of your homepage displaying what your site is about and how it works. You can design a professional and attractive slideshows. At the search engine area it’s too blank. There is a empty space there and it looks like this site is not professional and the design does not look attractive.

What do you find bothersome? What do you like?

The words make me feel bothersome and the too much empty space at top of your homepage and also at the bottom of it. What i like is that you allow people to directly see the listing chart which is comfort and convenience for the visitors. Then u have the login button but dont have the register button beside it. You should put the registration and login button together. And i suggest that you put the login button above the search button. I found that it take quite long time to load a page in your site which i think the image or content of the site is too big.

Would you sign up for a free account? If not, why?

At this time no, as i dont see what will benefits me from signing in as a members of your site. I dont see why i need your site. I suggest that you can create a listing in the homepage by listing down the benefits of your site and why should i join your site, what will i get. This will catch visitor attention and will attract the visitors as they will agree with your listing.

How do you think the site compares to other similar sites/competitors like unsigned.com , overplay.com , uplaya.com, reverbnation.com?

Their site looks interesting than yours. Your site does not show that what feature you provide that they dont have. You have to create a special feature to attract visitors come back and use your feature. If i can have the same feature other site then why should i use your site?. I suggest that you can create a notification feature when the artist that they like come out with new songs or you can send notification toward the latest news of their favorite artist. If you have a good service that people doesnt have which mean you are the first people who using it, you can show your feature at the homepage or state it down at your homepage.

How would you make the “fans account” more appealing ? And what would you do to make them participate more actively to the community ?

Like i said above, notifying the fans about their favorite artist news. To make it more interesting,  i suggest that you create a vote button or displaying the numbers of fans the artist or songs currently have. This will make it more interesting. Creating button like thump up or down for the songs. This will make the user for active. THen allow them to give comments on the songs or artist. Give a rating for the songs base on how many people like the songs or artist. Then you also can create a list of most active fans or most sporting fans. Then reward them for something special. This might attract more members and make them more actively in your site.

The Music Industry section has been added recently and is at the moment in a test period. How would develop it further? Do you think is worth to invest relevant resources on that part of the site?

First i dont think if the fans need this information. This is something for a music industry person to deal with. They would like to know their competitors. I dont think this is worth to invest for the site. However if you would like to do it at your own interest, i suggest that you can add a search engine for searching music companies. Listing down the information that you have about it. Allowing people to give comments toward the specific company. Also the news about the companies.

Please share any additional feedback/comments you might have.

I think i have mentioned all of it above. i suggest that you should improve your site layout make it more interesting by reducing the wordy at your homepage and change it to a picture with a short description. At your homepage, it’s best for you to display the top news, top loved artist and music. Avoiding empty space in your page. Creating a keyword at your homepage would be great as it describe the main purpose of your site.
